Three brothers, including two of the country’s most successful luxury real estate agents, were convicted of: sex trafficking On Monday, after a five-week trial, they were accused of drugging and raping dozens of women, beguiling them with their wealth and lavish lifestyle.

The verdict came after 11 women testified. manhattan In federal court, they were sexually assaulted by one or more of the brothers: twins Oren and Alon Alexander, 38, and Tal Alexander, 39. All three shook their heads when the jury foreman said “guilty” 19 times in a row, a powerful inference that could land them in prison for life.

Tal Alexander buried his head in his crossed arms. Their shocked parents sat in the gallery behind them. Aaron Alexander’s wife covered her face with her hands and appeared to be holding back tears.

Judge Valerie E. Caproni has scheduled sentencing for Aug. 6. The brothers have been jailed since their arrest in 2024 and their lawyers said they would appeal the sentences.

“We believe in our client’s innocence and we will not stop fighting until we win, and we believe one day we will win,” defense attorney Marc Agnifilo said outside the courthouse.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton praised the sentence for vindicating victims of crimes that often go unreported and unpunished.

“The truth is, sex trafficking and other federal sex crimes occur in all walks of life, but we haven’t done enough to eradicate it,” Clayton said in a statement.

Dozens of women say they were drugged and beaten

The verdict represents a crushing defeat for Oren and Tal Alexander, who were once known as the real estate “A Team” for their high-volume sales and celebrity clients. The brothers started their own company after breaking industry giant Douglas Elliman’s sales records. Aaron Alexander runs his family’s private security company.

Victims testified that they met the brothers at nightclubs, parties and on dating apps and were assaulted after accepting their invitations to free vacations to the Hamptons; Aspen, Colorado; and a Caribbean cruise. According to prosecutors, more than 60 women said they were raped by one or more brothers.

Defense lawyers said the accuser had a faulty memory or was hoping to cash in on the brothers’ wealth. Their lawyer admitted that the brothers were both womanizers. But they insisted any sex was consensual.

In addition to the top charge, Aaron Alexander and Tal Alexander were found guilty of sex trafficking of a minor, while Aaron Alexander and Oren Alexander were found guilty of aggravated sexual abuse by use of force or intoxication and sexual abuse of a physically incapacitated person. Oren Alexander was also found guilty of sexual exploitation of a minor after prosecutors showed the jury a video he recorded in which he appeared to attack a drugged 17-year-old.

Lawsuit exposes real estate world’s open secrets

In addition to the criminal cases, the brothers have faced about two dozen lawsuits over the past two years, including one filed last week in which Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing LA” star Tracy Tutto accused Oren Alexander of drugging and assaulting her while she was attending a real estate event in New York City.

When the first lawsuit was filed, multiple women came forward claiming they too had been assaulted, and the brothers’ inappropriate behavior was an open secret in the real estate community. The government took notice and opened a criminal case.

During the trial, many women who testified said they believed the brothers had poisoned their drinks. Some people describe feeling like they have lost control of their bodies.

One woman testified that she met the brothers at a party in actor Zac Efron’s Manhattan apartment in 2012. She said she had little interaction with the actor, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing, and that later that night she went to a nightclub and woke up naked to find a naked Aaron Alexander standing over her.

“I don’t want to have sex with you,” she testified she told him. “Haha, you already did that,” she remembers him snapping as he “laughed in my face.”

Testimony questions money-driven accusations

Prosecutors disputed the suggestion that the plaintiffs hoped to profit from the lawsuit. Prosecutor Elizabeth Espinoza told jurors that only two people had pending lawsuits and that both were wealthy.

A woman who testified in court said she was raped by Alon Alexander in Aspen, Colorado, in 2017 when she was 17 years old. She said she was the daughter of a billionaire.

“I don’t want their money. I just don’t want them to have it,” she told jurors.

Lindsey Acree, an artist and gallery owner, testified that she was raped by Tal Alexander and another man at a Hamptons home in 2011 after she felt paralyzed after a glass of wine.

The woman said she filed the lawsuit last year even though she “never needed their money” because the Alexanders “kept calling us money worshippers, extortion artists, liars.”

“If there’s a kid with a stick who keeps hitting people, you take his stick away,” she told the jury. “Money is their stick, so you take it away so they can’t hurt other people anymore.”

Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum introduces strict new construction laws: Violators could face Dh2 million fine in UAE emirate

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, recently issued a new law in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai regarding the quality and safety of construction in the emirate. The law aims to ensure the safety, quality and sustainability of buildings in the emirate by maintaining structural integrity, ensuring regular maintenance and supporting the safe operation of all systems. Additionally, it strives to improve occupant comfort, reduce accidents, protect lives and property, and maintain Dubai’s urban image.

<p> <span class=On Tuesday morning, the Dubai Media Office issued an announcement outlining the objectives of the law:

  • Ensuring high-quality, safe and sustainable buildings by protecting structural integrity
  • Mandatory scheduled maintenance to support the safe operation of all building systems
  • Improve occupant comfort while reducing accidents and ensuring the safety of life and property
  • Preserving Dubai’s urban and architectural character

legal meaning

The provisions of the law apply to all buildings in Dubai, including those in private developments and free zones, whether constructed before or after the enactment of the law. Dubai Municipality will develop a digital management system, maintain a unified database and conduct regular assessments, responsible for ensuring construction safety and quality. The agency is also responsible for setting sustainability standards and implementing measures and procedures to protect buildings, life and property. It will oversee maintenance, investigate incidents, take corrective measures, promote modern technologies, regulate materials and manage the digital construction portal. Finally, a quality and safety certificate will only be issued after a comprehensive inspection and assessment of the structural and technical condition of the building by a licensed engineering office or company.

What should owners pay attention to?

Once the buildings are completed, they must obtain quality and safety certificates

By law, owners of buildings, including unit owners under the Dubai Shared Property Ownership Law No. (6) of 2019, are required to obtain a quality and safety certificate upon completion of the building, ensure that any defects discovered during inspections are corrected, and follow procedures prescribed by the relevant authorities. For buildings under 40 years old, the certificate is valid for 10 years, and for buildings over 40 years old, the certificate is valid for 5 years. The certificate can be renewed for a similar period, the conditions and procedures for renewal being determined by a decision issued by the Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council (TEC). Law No. 10 sets out the rules for tenants to move out if a building is approved for demolition. Decree No. (26) of 2007 regulating the relationship between landlords and tenants in Dubai and its amendments shall apply. A tenant who vacates under this Act shall have priority to return to the building upon reconstruction or completion of maintenance and repairs at the same rental price agreed in the original lease, unless otherwise agreed between the parties. Those who violate the law or its decisions may face fines ranging from AED 100 to AED 1,000,000. Repeat violations within two years will result in double fines, up to a maximum of AED 2,000,000.

On the road to the “safest city in the world”

Influential people who have moved to Dubai from all over the world have dubbed Dubai “the safest city in the world,” a title that has spread widely. In an effort to improve the safety and protection of residents, Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed recently introduced another law. The legislation, known as Law No. (2) of 2026, creates a framework that protects residents, visitors and property, while supporting the city’s urban development and character. It details a set of rules designed to reduce accidents, prevent injuries and ensure high safety standards in public places and commercial activities.

Tensions in the Middle East

The measures, aimed at increasing security for residents, come as the UAE battles Iranian aggression. This resulted in the closure of the country’s airspace, one of the most important air travel corridors. Dubai also faces a growing problem of pets being abandoned by foreigners whose owners have fled the country due to security risks. While veterinarians are receiving an increasing number of inquiries about euthanizing pets, volunteers are finding dogs leashed on the streets and kittens being delivered to doorsteps. Throughout, the UAE authorities have been praised for their continued support in providing travelers with free hotels, food vouchers and pets in Dubai’s new AI-powered feeding station project ‘Ehsan Stations’.

Pentagon officials see little chance of restarting human-AI trade

a top Pentagon Officials see little chance of resuming talks Anthropic selection The People’s Bank of China has raised concerns over the military use of its artificial intelligence tools after the company launched a legal challenge to the government’s unprecedented move to declare the company a supply chain risk.

Emile Michael, the undersecretary of defense for research and engineering, said Monday that Anthropic’s lawsuit was an “anticipated response” and that the company’s attempts to overturn the supply chain statement would not change the Pentagon’s decision.

ALSO READ | Tech giant Anthropic battles with Pentagon over how much artificial intelligence can be used in warfare and spying on U.S. citizens

“I don’t think the issue is going to be resolved this way,” Michael said in an interview with Bloomberg News.

Michael spoke just hours after Anthropic filed a lawsuit to prevent the Pentagon and other agencies from declaring the company a threat to U.S. supply chains and banning it from government contracts. In court filings earlier Monday, Anthropic claimed the move violated the company’s rights to free speech and due process under the U.S. Constitution.

A Human spokesperson had no immediate comment when asked Monday about Michael’s remarks.

Michael, a former Uber Technologies Inc. executive who now leads the Pentagon’s effort to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence, has been in intense negotiations for weeks with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei over the terms of using the company’s artificial intelligence tools. Negotiations broke down about two weeks ago after the company demanded assurances that its artificial intelligence would not be used to mass spy on Americans or deploy autonomous weapons.

That prompted the Pentagon to declare San Francisco-based Anthropic a supply chain risk, a move usually reserved for companies in hostile countries. Until recently, Anthropic offered the only AI system that could run in the Pentagon’s classified cloud, and its Claude Gov tool was a top choice among defense personnel because of its ease of use.

The decision puts Anthropic’s $200 million contract to provide classified artificial intelligence tools to the Pentagon at risk and could prevent the company from collaborating with others on military work. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and President Donald Trump have outlined a six-month deadline for the military and U.S. agencies to transition from human artificial intelligence to other artificial intelligence providers.

Anthropic expressed concerns in a court filing that government actions have affected its work with other federal contractors. The company said a vendor it was working with to develop a custom app warned it could “pause work or even remove Crowder from existing deployments.” Anthropic said other contractors “are raising concerns, suspending cooperation, and considering terminating contracts.”

On Monday, Michael reiterated a key Pentagon complaint that Anthropic’s public stance calling for safeguards for military use suggests the company wants input into the chain of command and potential operational controls.

The company rejects that assertion and insists all military decisions are made by the Pentagon. Amodai also said Anthropic hopes to continue working with the military but wants any defense contracts to adhere to both usage restrictions.

When asked about the possibility of resuming negotiations, Michael was blunt: “The negotiations are over. We are moving on.”

What were the first words spoken on the moon? Inside the historic Apollo 11 conversations

Imagine having a podcast and listening to what their first conversation sounded like during the 1969 Apollo 11 mission (marking a pivotal moment in space exploration). On July 20, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins completed the impossible and set foot on the moon for the first time. This victory in the Cold War space race captivated the world and showcased American ingenuity. Perfect weather set the stage for liftoff from Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, and here’s what Neal, Aldrin and Collins had to say.

Kennedy speaks as tensions rise

The conditions were just right that midsummer morning. “The weather was perfect, with a southeasterly wind of 10 knots, temperatures in the mid-80s and cloud levels of 15,000 feet,” noted NASA in their Apollo 11 moon landing recordsCrowds of people gathered along the Florida coast, their hearts racing with anxiety. Yet in the cramped cabin atop the 363-foot-tall Saturn V rocket, the three astronauts remained calm. Their mission echoes the bold challenge President John F. Kennedy launched nearly seven years ago.according to Rice University In a speech delivered in July 1962, he wrote: “We choose to go to the moon and do other things during this decade not because they are easy but because they are difficult, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because this challenge is one we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, as well as the others.” The deadline angered NASA, astronauts and the public. As in the August issue space sports magazineMichael Collins later reflected in 2014: “The deadline is the end of the century, and you can motivate people… to say, ‘We have to do this by the end of the century.'” This is a very powerful tool. Collins attributes this success to NASA’s generous budget and talented team.

Staying calm during Saturn V rocket launch

NASA’s flight surgeons reported that the heart rates recorded 36 minutes after launch were 110 for Neil Armstrong, 99 for Mike Collins, and 88 for Buzz Aldrin, which were only slightly higher than an adult’s resting heart rate of 60-100 beats per minute. Calmness under pressure defines these heroes.

First steps and words on the lunar surface

Four days later, Armstrong and Aldrin flew to the moon in the lunar module Eagle while Collins orbited above the moon. The descent captivated audiences around the world, especially as fuel was reduced. Armstrong used manual controls to avoid boulder-strewn terrain and find a safe spot.NASA quoted Armstrong as saying on the radio at 20:17 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on July 20, 1969: “Houston, this is Tranquility Base. The eagle has landed. “Houston’s Charlie Duke responded: “We’re copying you on the ground. You’ve got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We’re breathing again.”Soon, Buzz joined him. “Beautiful view!” he exclaimed as he reached the lander’s broad pads. “Isn’t this something!” Armstrong agreed. “The scenery here is beautiful.”“It was desolate,” Aldrin said.Armstrong’s heart rate reached 150 bpm, the highest of any Apollo commander, but he described the landing as “very mild… It’s hard to tell when we’ll start. “

One small step for the moon, a leap for mankind

Six hours later, Armstrong descended the ladder. He quickly grabbed a lunar soil sample as a backup and stepped onto the lunar surface: “That’s one small step for mankind, one giant leap for mankind.”

Apollo 11 moonwalk montage

“It has a distinct beauty,” he added. “It’s like most of the high deserts in the United States. It’s different, but it’s very beautiful here.” After the mission, Armstrong shared surprises: a close horizon and dust behavior with no atmosphere, no clouds, just sharp trails.Buzz Aldrin followed, carefully closing the hatch following a checklist. “I looked out the window and saw Neil walking down the ladder,” Aldrin recalled. “When it was my turn to exit, I remembered the checklist said to carefully return and close the hatch, being careful not to lock it.”

The Achievements of the Moon Walk: Words from Nixon

according to American Presidential ProjectThe pair then spent 2.5 hours outdoors, collecting 21.5 kilograms of moon rocks, planting an American flag and chatting over the radio with President Richard Nixon.“This is a priceless moment in human history,” Nixon said, smiling at the White House, “when all of us on Earth are truly one: one proud of what you have done, and one praying for your safe return to Earth.”Astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin Jr. walks near Eagle’s legs during an Apollo 11 extravehicular activity (EVA), as shown in a clip shared by NASA on the Apollo 11 logbook. It was captured by astronaut Neil A. with a 70mm lunar surface camera. Armstrong, commander of Apollo 11.Meanwhile, Collins orbited alone in the Columbia command module. “I’m the loneliest man in the entire universe, at least according to the newspapers,” he quipped. “I was actually happy to get behind the moon so mission control would shut up. And then I had some peace.”

trip home and splashdown

After staying on the ground for 21 hours and 36 minutes, Armstrong and Aldrin took off and docked with Collins. They splashed down in the Pacific Ocean 13 miles from the USS Hornet on July 24, 1969, 195 hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds after launch. Bad weather moved the site 250 miles to ensure safety. To check for lunar bugs, the crew was quarantined for 21 days and eventually became icons. Their feat opened the door further for Apollo 12-17.

enduring legacy

Jim Lovell summed it up at the 2014 gathering: “The legacy of Apollo is that if you set your mind to something, get everyone together, everyone agrees we should get it done, and then we move forward, it becomes something we can all be proud of.”Armstrong died in 2012 at the age of 82, and Collins died in 2021 at the age of 90. At 93 years old (as of 2026), Aldrin remains the oldest living moonwalker, along with David Scott (91), Harrison Schmidt (88), and Charles Duke (87).The Apollo 11 moon landing inspired today’s dreamers, demonstrated audacious goals and united us.
