He noted that the crowd, which included Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, spent much of the evening outside the Kennedy Center.

The Kennedy Center was ordered to remove Trump’s name from the performing arts venue’s facade after a judge rejected a request to suspend a court-ordered Friday deadline to remove all references to Trump on the building and other aspects of its operations.

Why is the Trump administration seeking to delay the removal of names from the Kennedy Center?

Documents shared by POLITICO reporters state, “Defendants respectfully request a brief extension of time to file the Statement of Compliance required by this Court’s May 29, 2026 Order of Permanent Injunction (see ECF No. 49) because one task—removing the “Intended to Rename the Kennedy Center After President Trump” signage from the center’s front porch, supra—has been delayed because of D.C. thunderstorms to ensure safety of workers’ concerns.”

The filing further states, “Plaintiffs’ position is that Defendants had two weeks to comply with the order and only needed an extension because of their inexcusable delays. Plaintiffs are also concerned that this would qualify as Defendants’ non-compliance. But in this case, Plaintiffs have no position on a 12-hour extension. Plaintiffs will vigorously oppose any further extension.”

“Why is it that when workers put Trump’s name on the Kennedy Center, they used cherry pickers to add the letters…but workers have been building scaffolding for hours to remove his name. Where is the cherry picker? Something is wrong here,” one person wrote.

A person claiming to be a retired lawyer additional “The argument for a storm delay is not very convincing when you see workers doing virtually nothing for several hours. And I still think this may be a ploy to get the Justice Department to try another legal maneuver.”
