NH users who have not paid their tolls can pay within 3 days
New Delhi: Highway users fail to pay tolls due to NHs failure or blacklisting quick taginsufficient balance or missing tags, payment will be made within three days of receipt of electronic notification. If the toll is not paid by the due date, double the toll will be charged, and all vehicle (registration certificate) related changes, transfers, certificate replacement and other services will be suspended.A senior Road Transport Ministry official said details of the electronic notification process for non-payment of tolls will be announced in the coming days. The notice will detail the procedures for payment of pending tolls and for raising challenges. “This is crucial as we start multi-lane free movement (MLFF) or barrier-free tolling on the NH stretch. The first MLFF tolling system will be launched at Choryasi in Gujarat,” an official said.So far, NHAI’s electronic toll collection entity IHMCL has bid for 16 toll plazas from the MLFF. These include Gharaunda in Haryana, Mundka in Delhi, and Manoharpura, Shahjahanpur and Daulatpura in Rajasthan, where the new system will soon be operational. TOI has learned that the government will now bundle tenders for MLFF projects to speed up implementation.“Providing e-notifications is key to the success of MLFF as in this toll system, vehicles will move seamlessly and will not be intercepted. The e-notifications for unpaid tolls will mention double tolls, but if the vehicle owners pay within three days, there will be a 50 per cent discount, meaning accurate tolls will be paid,” an official said.Earlier, the ministry had revised the NH tolls rules to make it clear that failure to clear unpaid tolls would result in inability to obtain ‘NOC’ for transfer of ownership or transfer of vehicle from one state to another.
Female staff at toll booth
New Delhi: NHAI has deployed over 5,100 day shift women employees at over 1,140 toll plazas. Dedicating female employees to front-line operations positions will create an efficient and humane environment for commuters, thereby improving user experience and “reduce the likelihood of disputes at NH toll plaza toll booths,” the company said. The decision was taken after discussions with stakeholders including toll plaza operators and industry associations.
‘I guess that’s why I didn’t play those two games’: Axar Patel
Mumbai: The North Stand of the Wankhede Stadium gives Axar Patel When he took up his long fielding position, the crowd erupted in applause. The applause is well deserved. In a span of around 40 minutes, Axar produced game-changing defensive efforts that will be etched in Indian cricket folklore, just like Kapil Dev’s catch in the 1983 World Cup final and Suryakumar Yadav’s effort in the summit clash of the 2024 T20 World Cup.The 32-year-old had already collected a catch from Phil Salt before creating the moment that boosted the team’s morale and inspired the crowd. it starts with Jasprit Bumrah Harry Brooke deceived him with a slower delivery in the first ball of his spell. The England captain skated and the ball looked set to land safely at deep cover. Axar is stationed inside the ring, confident he can make it to the ring. He sprinted backwards with full concentration, perfectly judged the ball’s trajectory, then swooped forward to make a spectacular diving catch inches from the ground.
The second attack came in the 14th over and the game turned decisively in India’s favour. Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks threatened to score 77 runs off 39 balls for the fifth wicket.Jacks chipped a complete pass from Arshdeep Singh deep into the post and the ball was in the air again. Aksa, who was patrolling the boundary, rushed over, kept his balance and just when he seemed to be losing control, he passed the ball to Shivam Dube before crossing the boundary and England reduced the deficit to 172/5.In between these efforts, Axar also used his ball-handling skills to slow down the tempo and dismiss Tom Banton, who scored over 350 runs. He could have blinded him again at long-on as Bethel approached his century, but the chance slipped away and went over the line.India’s defense has been a concern in the T20 World Cup, with 13 catches missing before the semi-finals. But the team, led by Axar, has excelled on the field and seized every opportunity – a positive sign heading into Sunday’s final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. When asked which of the two catches he cherished more, Aksa humorously replied “the ball decided to chase me.” He added that Brooke’s catch was difficult but Jacks’ dismissal was more crucial as it broke a dangerous partnership.Axar may not have the aura of some of his teammates and is sometimes overlooked. He had to hand over T20 vice-captain to Shubman Gill He made two appearances as a substitute during the 2025 Asia Cup against Netherlands and South Africa at home at the Narendra Modi Stadium.Yet Surya’s deputy has always been a team player. During these games, he was in the dugout with a drink in hand, cheering on his teammates and patiently waiting for his chance — something he has done throughout his career. Axar has taken eight wickets in six games with left-arm spin and has an economy rate of 8.09, the second-highest among Indian bowlers behind Bumrah’s 6.62.The Gujarat all-rounder also missed the 2023 World Cup due to injury and thus had to wait to play in the ICC tournament at home. With Aqsa now certain to play in Sunday’s final, he is eager to play in front of his home crowd – with his son watching him live “for the first time”.“I think that’s why I didn’t play in those two games (because I had to play in the final) because it was very important to me,” Aksa said. “I have been waiting for years to play at my home ground in front of my family. It is a very proud moment. Two years later, I will be playing at my home ground – and also in the ICC World Cup final.”Responding to trolls on social media calling the Ahmedabad Stadium a “jinx”, Aksa smiled and replied: “I didn’t play in that match (2023 World Cup final), so now I think the curse will be broken!”

On Saturday, UAE authorities “temporarily and partially” closed its airspace but began a “limited” operation two days later.
Airports in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Manama have all been targeted since the Iranian attack.
What does the Dubai Media Office say?
Some social media users posted videos claiming smoke was billowing from Dubai International Airport. However, authorities dismissed such reports.

The authorities have also denied reports circulating on social media of any incident at Dubai International Airport,” it wrote on the X (formerly Twitter) platform.

The latest news on the US-Iraq war
Meanwhile, the conflict between the United States and Iran entered its second week on Saturday. President Donald Trump declared he would only accept “unconditional surrender” from Tehran, while Israel launched new attacks against Iran and Lebanon.
Trump’s comments on social media on Friday came hours after Iran’s president announced that unnamed countries had begun mediation efforts, briefly raising the possibility of a diplomatic solution, albeit a remote one, a week after the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran.
“There will be no deal with Iran except unconditional surrender!” Trump wrote. “After that, and with a great and acceptable leader elected, we and our many wonderful and very courageous allies and partners will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction and make it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.”

‘Jasprit Bumrah is human too’: Phillips issues new warning ahead of final
AHMEDABAD: For a country with a population of just 5.3 million – smaller than many major cities in the world – New Zealand’s rise in cricket over the past decade has been remarkable. The Black Caps have reached eight major ICC finals, including the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups, the 2021 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. They also lifted the inaugural World Test Championship in 2021 and reached the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup.Their women’s team are the reigning T20 World Cup champions in 2024, while the men’s team are on the verge of claiming their maiden T20 title against India in the T20 World Cup final on Sunday night.New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips highlighted the contrast between the two cricketing nations on Friday. India has a population of over 1.4 billion and Phillips pointed to the host nation’s wealth of talent, which suggests they can easily field three competitive teams in the T20 World Cup. By comparison, New Zealand has to rely on a much smaller talent pool.“Obviously we have fewer people to choose from as a country, which means our high performance programs have to be very specific and tailored to our population,” Phillips said ahead of a training session in New Zealand. “But the talent coming out of India is amazing. They’ll probably pick three teams that are equally matched in this World Cup. So for us to be able to go out and compete against teams from around the world with such a small population is great.“Meanwhile, Phillips refused to underestimate India’s out-of-form mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who has conceded 64 runs in four overs against England in the semi-finals at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. “We’ve played against him a few times now, which helps,” Phillips said. “We’re going to try to take it one ball at a time. He’s allowed to have a good day, but we’re allowed to have a good day.”“Bumra is human too”Phillips also acknowledged the threat posed by pacer Jasprit Bumrah, whose performances have proved decisive in the home side’s last two games. “The games we had against him in the bilateral series were fantastic, but he’s a great bowler,” Phillips said. “Bumrah has so much variety and hits the blocks so well at the death. But he’s human too.”
Emirates NBD waives fees for cash withdrawals from other ATMs in UAE and GCC as concerns over Iran and US-Israel war grow
Emirates NBD has announced that it will temporarily waive ATM withdrawal fees at other banking machines in the UAE and the wider GCC region in an effort to ease financial access during a period of turmoil in the Gulf region. The decision comes as regional tensions and travel disruptions leave many residents and travelers scrambling for cash and banking services. The relief measure announced by the Dubai-based bank removes fees normally charged when customers withdraw money from ATMs outside the bank’s own network. The exemption will remain in effect until March 31, 2026, allowing customers to more easily access funds during a period of uncertainty in the Middle East.
What does Emirates NBD fee reduction include?
Under the temporary policy, Emirates NBD customers will benefit from a number of key fee waivers designed to simplify day-to-day banking.
- Withdrawals via ATMs from other networks are free – Customers can withdraw cash from any ATM across the UAE and GCC countries without paying the usual interbank withdrawal fees.
- Eliminate Debit Card Replacement Fee – The cost of replacing a lost or damaged debit card is also waived.
- Free local and international card delivery – Customers applying for a new debit card can have it delivered within the UAE or overseas without paying shipping costs during the exemption period.
The bank communicated the latest news to customers via email, explaining that the move is intended to give people greater flexibility in accessing funds and managing day-to-day transactions during the ongoing regional disruption.
Why Emirates NBD launched rescue measures
The banking bailout comes as the Middle East is experiencing severe geopolitical tensions and aviation disruptions, affecting travel and movement across the Gulf. Airspace closures and flight cancellations have left many travelers stranded in multiple countries, prompting governments and businesses to roll out support measures.
Emirates NBD fee relief: Banking relief in Iran and US-Israel war?
Banking services, especially easy access to cash through ATMs, have become especially important for residents and visitors dealing with unexpected travel changes. Financial institutions often implement temporary fee reductions during crises to ensure customers have uninterrupted access to essential financial services, especially when normal travel and banking operations are disrupted. The decision is expected to bring immediate relief to several groups:
- Stranded passengers need cash while waiting for flights.
- Due to travel disruptions, expats are moving between GCC countries.
- Residents rely on nearby ATMs outside the bank network.
In many cases, there are often additional fees for withdrawing money from other banks’ ATMs, sometimes ranging from AED 2 to AED 25 per transaction, depending on the ATM network and banking package. By eliminating these fees, banks allow customers to withdraw money from the most convenient machine without worrying about additional fees.
Emirates NBD waives ATM fees: What does this mean for your funds in the GCC?
For travelers who have lost their card abroad or need a replacement, free replacement cards and international delivery options also ensure continued access to funds while away from home. The Emirates NBD initiative is part of a broader response by Gulf institutions to try to mitigate the effects of regional instability.Across the region, airlines initiated emergency flights, governments issued travel warnings and some authorities introduced temporary measures to support residents affected by flight cancellations and movement restrictions. Banks in particular play a crucial role in this situation, as cash access and payment continuity are critical to dealing with unexpected delays or relocation of travelers.
What Emirates NBD customers should know
While the fee waiver provides a great convenience, it is temporary. Customers should note the following key details:
- This exemption applies until March 31, 2026.
- it covers
Cash withdrawal Withdraw from any ATM in UAE and GCC. - Debit card replacement and delivery fees are also suspended during this period.
- After the deadline, normal fees and service charges may resume unless the bank extends the relief package.
As geopolitical tensions continue to impact travel and economic activity in the Gulf region, agencies are increasingly stepping in with support measures to help residents cope with disruptions. For now, Emirates NBD’s decision ensures that customers – from stranded travelers to everyday residents – can more easily withdraw their funds without having to worry about additional ATM fees during an already challenging period.
