Montreal shooting: Snowy Mountain police officer killed, suspect ‘eliminated’, five things you need to know; everything we know about the lockdown
montreal The police (SPVM) reported that one police officer was killed and another seriously injured after a shooting in the Côte-des-Neiges area.
The SPVM confirmed the death of a police officer just before 1:45 p.m. In addition, one civilian was killed in the conflict, Suspect Deaths have been reported.

- Police responded to the scene at the intersection of Courtrai and Trans Island avenues at 11:35 a.m. and an emergency alert was issued advising residents to shelter in place.
- Individuals within the boundaries of Côte-des-Neiges Road, MacDonald Street, Highway 40 and Queen Mary are directed to remain indoors. Others are advised to avoid the immediate area.
- Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada expressed sympathy for the victims of the shooting. “My deepest condolences go out to the family, loved ones and colleagues of the police officer who died in the line of duty in the Snowy Mountains,” she wrote on
- Authorities blocked off a residential street in the Snowy Mountains area. “We ask everyone to avoid the industry. The situation is not yet under control,” Brabant said.
- The Department of Public Safety has issued an emergency notice regarding an armed and dangerous person in the vicinity. The notice advises local residents to stay indoors and urges people to avoid the area.
Montreal shooting: Quebec transport ministry releases statement
Quebec’s Ministry of Transport has announced the closure of part of the Decary Highway and other areas of the highway network in the city’s central region due to ongoing police operations.
In addition, a local subway station has been closed.
Internal Security Minister Ian Lafrenière wrote on X: “My thoughts are with the families of those injured.”
Montreal shooting: Witnesses tell the truth
Local resident Brandon Elkaim expressed surprise when he learned of the shooting nearby.
“As far as we know now, there were about 10 or 12 shootings,” he told CTV News. “About 10 minutes passed and it was quiet, but during that time we saw the park empty and parents and children running in panic.”
He noted that law enforcement responded to the area quickly and the investigation is ongoing.
“We are all absolutely shocked that this happened in our normally quiet neighborhood,” he said. “We’re surrounded by schools. This is generally a very family-friendly area. So, we’re all really shocked by what just happened here.”
Montreal police have not provided any information about the cause or circumstances of the shooting.
