As part of the new project, Google will invest approximately $75 million in A24 Film Studio. AI According to an announcement made by Google and A24 on Monday, the partnership is an artificial intelligence (AI) partnership. The investment is directly related to the AI partnership and is not a funding round or funding round for A24.

According to TheWrap, under the agreement, Google’s artificial intelligence unit DeepMind and A24 will jointly develop new artificial intelligence-driven tools, workflows, and film production and distribution technologies. This is the first time Google has taken ownership of a movie studio, making the deal significant for both the tech and entertainment industries. Google already has a significant presence in media through its ownership of YouTube, but it has never directly invested in a movie studio before.

Google AI movie deal

Google DeepMind co-founder and CEO Demis Hassabis said in a company statement that the company hopes to work closely with filmmakers and artists from the beginning to build AI tools. The goal is to create AI capabilities that help artists tell stories in an authentic and meaningful way while supporting their creative vision, Hassabis said. Eli Collins, vice president of DeepMind, said major breakthroughs happen when advanced technologies are in the hands of talented creators.

The partnership will allow A24 to use DeepMind’s artificial intelligence technology and research capabilities in its film production process. However, the agreement is non-exclusive, meaning A24 still has the option to partner with other tech companies and AI providers. The deal also doesn’t give Google access to A24’s movie library, despite the partnership between the two companies.

Why Google’s stock price fell

While A24’s investment grabs the headlines, it’s not the main reason letter Shares fell sharply on Monday. Alphabet shares fell about 6.7% in early trading, reflecting broader investor concerns about the company. Investors worry about AI-related brain drain, legal challenges and how Google spends its money.

One of the major issues is the departure of Noam Shazeer, senior director of Google AI and co-leader of the Gemini AI model. Shazeer announced that he is leaving Google to join OpenAI, Investing.com reported over the weekend. His exit surprised investors because less than two years ago, Google reportedly spent about $2.7 billion to recall him from Character.AI.

Soon after, another respected AI leader, John Jamesconfirming that he is leaving Google after nearly nine years at the company. Jumper will join artificial intelligence competitor Anthropic. The departures of two high-profile artificial intelligence leaders have fueled concerns that Google could be losing key talent to rivals.

Google Gemini Artificial Intelligence Competition

Investors are worried that Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence model may fall behind competing artificial intelligence systems developed by OpenAI and Anthropic. Some analysts are warning that the performance gap between Google’s artificial intelligence models and leading competitors may be widening rather than narrowing, Investing.com reported. Those concerns added pressure on Alphabet shares and led to a sell-off when markets reopened.

The new A24 partnership shows that Google will continue to invest heavily in artificial intelligence and find new ways to apply the technology to creative industries such as film production. Even so, investors appear to be more concerned about the loss of top AI talent and competitive pressures in the AI race than about the A24 investment itself. As a result, Alphabet shares fell despite the announcement of a major new artificial intelligence partnership with A24.
