Cabinet approves construction of India's first underwater road-rail tunnel in Assam

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved infrastructure projects worth over Rs 31,000 crore, including the construction of the country’s first road-cum-rail tunnel under the Brahmaputra river in Assam. This twin-tube public tunnel with approach roads for vehicles and trains is the second tunnel in the world and was built at a cost of Rs 18,662 crore. It will connect Gohpur and Numaligarh in Assam and reduce travel time from about 6 hours to just 20 minutes. Announcing the cabinet decision, I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the project, which will be fully funded by the government, will not only shorten the travel distance from 240 kilometers to about 34 kilometers and improve connectivity, but is also strategically important. The four-lane tunnel will ensure high-speed connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh and provide “strategic resilience” for defense purposes. The minister said the twin pipelines will be connected to each other at a distance of 500 meters.

Officials said the tunnel will be built about 32 meters below the lowest river bed of the Brahmaputra River. One of the tubes will be equipped with a monorail track that will not allow vehicles to move as the train passes through the tube.

,

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the Brahmaputra Tunnel Project a “landmark initiative to promote connectivity in the Northeast”.“…this transformative project will enhance connectivity, reduce logistics costs and accelerate growth in Assam and the entire Northeast,” he said in a post on X.TOI has learned that the government initially included connectivity between Gopur and Numaligarh as part of the Special Accelerated Road Development Scheme for the Northeast in 2008 by building a bridge. But later a proposal was made to build a road tunnel under the Brahmaputra River. Later, it was modified to have a tunnel shared by vehicles and trains.A similar 22-kilometer road-cum-rail tunnel through the Northeastern Chicken Neck corridor is also in the planning stages. Apart from tunnels, the cabinet also approved three NH projects with a total cost of over Rs 11,000 crore: a 107.7-km-long four-lane highway in Gujarat, a 154.6-km-long highway in Maharashtra and an 80-km-long NH-167 corridor in Telangana. In the railways sector, three multi-track projects covering 12 districts of Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka were approved at an estimated cost of Rs 18,509 crore. The approved projects will add 389 kilometers to the existing rail network. The multi-track project is scheduled to be completed by March 2031. These include the laying of the third and fourth lines between Kasala and Manmad in Maharashtra, which will have the second longest tunnel on the rail network.

Hardik Pandya is the Atum of Indian cricket | Cricket News

哈迪克·潘迪亚 (Hardik Pandya) 是印度板球界的阿图姆 (Atum)

Hardik Pandya during the 2024 T20 World Cup.

TimesofIndia.com in Delhi: In Egyptian mythology, Atum was the primordial creator god who rose from the chaotic waters and existed before the rest of the world was created. Simply put, Artum created himself. This is not a false myth. This is the story of the rise, grind and survival of India’s premier all-rounder and MVP of white-ball cricket: Hardik Pandya.Chaos and Hardik Pandya went hand in hand, but the cricketer managed to defy odds, tune out the outside noise and keep battling perception.

Dancing, drumming, and lots of fun! Indian team lands in Colombo | Hardik Pandya and Mahieka Sharmaindia arrive –

Weird haircuts, countless tattoos, unique dress styles, flashy cars and the humblest of exotic watches. They loved his cricket, questioned his choices and laughed at his personal life. However, this glimpse will leave a lasting impression and warmth on you, making you feel immediately at home. Hate him, hate him, but you can’t ignore him. Pandya is at the heart of India’s white-ball system and a key part in keeping the scales balanced since 2016.However, 2016 was not the pivotal year in Pandya’s story. It was the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2013-14 season and John Wright was watching a match in Baroda from the stands. The Mumbai Indians head coach at the time was scouting local talent for the team and Pandya’s first look impressed the New Zealander. The incident happened more than a decade ago, but the 71-year-old remembers the details as if it happened yesterday.“I watched him for a week in various games at BKC. He didn’t get a lot of runs, but he had attitude. He kept trying to hit the ball out of bounds and attack. We tried to sign him that year just because we had an opening in the lineup. I think Jarraj Saxena was injured and we could have replaced him, but Hardik had a back injury so we couldn’t. He came to Wankhede Field, bowled and batted. Then he got injured, so we couldn’t reach him that year.

“We got him the next year. I was lucky, you know, because I played against Kieran (Moore) and I’ve been friends with Kieran for years. He had a bit of an awareness of him but I liked his attitude. Yes. I’ll never forget that sequence of his hip – like Virender Sehwag, you know, sometimes it’s just a shot you see. That was 2014 and he started playing for us in 2015 and started winning championships with us. “Wright told TimesofIndia.com in New Zealand.Pandya’s inclusion in the MI squad means he shares the dressing room with an absolute legend in the football world. In that lounge, he found mentors and coaches and formed strong bonds. Kieron PollardEntering his life remains the defining moment of Pandya’s career. In the West Indian all-rounder, Pandya found someone with whom he could connect, talk and learn. While the lessons extended beyond cricket, the lessons didn’t begin immediately, but early confidence sustained Pollard for many years to come.

I just hope and pray that one day we can continue to remember Hardik Pandya for what he did on the cricket field. Rather than expensive watches and cars and the like

Kieron Pollard

“The first time I thought of him, again, was someone who was excited, someone who was full of youthful energy, going into the unknown, but still just being himself. Again, I think this blows my mind because typically when men come into an organization like MI, they’re usually shy. But he’s not shy. He is very confident. I think, you know, that’s what attracted me to it,” Pollard said in an exclusive conversation. While the first impression was very good, Pollard took it easy on the young all-rounder. He didn’t look too far ahead, but the moment he saw Pandya coming off a career low, his decision was made. The West Indies newspaper believes Pandya has the “real courage” to stand out on the big stage and is “born for the great times”.

Kieron Pollard Hardik Pandya

“I think it took me a few years to really make the decision that ‘he’s the guy to do this’ because he had his highs and then he had his lows. That’s where you really see a guy’s true mettle, because that’s what tends to happen. You have a good season and then that’s it for some guys.” But the way he went through the highs and lows proved to myself that he was capable. Again, for us, we spend a lot of time together. “He spent a lot of time talking about cricket, talking about life, you know, talking about brains and stuff like that. So all those things, after it’s absorbed, and then you see the performance on the field again, that’s when you really realize, okay, this guy, he’s made for the big time,” Pollard explained. In the early days of MI, Wright noticed the growing relationship between Pandya and Pollard and saw the friendship develop into a special bond. This also affects cricket as the veteran coach still believes that “the best coaching comes from your teammates”.

I think they enjoy each other’s company. They make great companions. He learned a lot from Kieran Pollard

John Wright

“I think one of the things that stands out the most is they’re great partners. They seem to get along really well. Obviously, that relationship helps a lot playing together. The best guidance often comes from your teammates. From the guys in the team. You can be a coach, but the best guidance comes from your teammates. This is an old-fashioned way of learning. But it’s probably the best and strongest. “For example, while in the Indian team, Anil Kumble’s impact on our spin bowlers was huge. Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman’s impact on other batsmen was huge. I think as a coach you need to create that environment so players can learn from each other. I think that happened to Polly as well. But I think they enjoyed each other’s company. They make great companions. He learned a lot from Kieran Pollard,” Wright said.During many interactions, Pandya consistently referred to Pollard as his brother from another mother. The connection between the two remains special, and Pandya insists that his Caribbean view of life continues to appeal to Pollard. When Hardik’s brother Krunal came into the MI squad, the trio hit it off immediately and together became the core of the franchise for years – helping them win titles and dominate the IPL. They are, in Pollard’s words, the “real engine room” of the device. When it comes to Caribbean prospects, Pollard doesn’t limit himself to music and style.“We tend to associate it with Caribbean and West Indian music and styles. But we also have this pride and passion for performing. Once you don’t perform, people will look at what you are doing. That’s exactly what it’s like from Hardik’s point of view. This is exactly what happened to him. He dresses well, he’s there, he likes himself, he likes to look good. He has that talent. People often try to use this against him. Because they don’t have that confidence. This is what happened. So there are things that resonate with me,” Pollard said.It was more than just fun and games as Pollard and Pandya spent countless late nights and early mornings in the hotel corridors. It’s about life, cricket and everything that happens in between. Throughout his active playing career, Pollard was always known for shutting out the outside noise and speaking his mind. It’s an art that takes years to master, but based on Pollard’s words of wisdom, Pandya had an early training camp that prepared him for the myriad battles in life and cricket.“I think it’s just one of those conversations and it’s a conversation about understanding who has power over you and who you allow to have power over you. If you know you’re doing everything you need to do on the cricket field and it doesn’t happen, that’s okay because it’s a game, it’s a sport and you feel a lot, right? But if you allow people who can’t even pick up a bat or ball, or who have opinions just because they watch the data, to influence you, that’s where the problem lies.

“My cricket will speak for me. If my cricket doesn’t speak for me today, that’s it. I’ll let it speak for me tomorrow.” That’s my mindset and that’s the mindset that we’re having this conversation with. Because people tend to say certain things, but we can control what we can control. We don’t live it. But when you start living mentally, you become stronger,” Pollard revealed of his conversations with Pandya to mentally prepare him for the fight.Over the years, Pandya has been labeled fragile and injury-prone, with little known about the top all-rounder’s relentless work. He was not just a piecemeal cricketer; He is a freak who can break into any line-up purely by batting or bowling. After career-threatening injuries and surgeries, Pandya continues to go strong and has played 131 T20Is and 94 ODIs for the national team. He’s not done yet!“He will be told a lot of things. He will not be able to bowl anymore. He is not physically strong. Who are you to say something like this? If you are not an expert. So when you realize these are just words, and people may be using words to set an agenda. Just channel your energy and say, okay. If you tell me I can’t, I’ll tell you I can. You know, that’s exactly what he did for years. Like I said, it wasn’t easy for him. There is such a person. and lives in India. The media will target this. “That’s the whole consequence of this lifestyle. But you have to be strong enough to overcome it. I believe he is strong enough to overcome it. Who says they won’t have more? Because life is like, life is what life is about. But he has, he now has the template to overcome it. That’s it,” Pollard said.

Gorgeous car packaging, expensive watches and an enviable lifestyle. While Pollard wouldn’t have bought most things, especially expensive watches, Pandya did, but as a “brother from another mother” he felt immense pride in seeing the story unfold up close. Pollard understands the feeling of winning the World Cup for his country, having given more than 100 per cent during the game and preparations, but wants Pandya to be remembered for “everything he did on the pitch”“I just hope and pray that one day we can continue to remember Hardik Pandya for what he did on the cricket field. Rather than expensive watches and cars and so on, because those tend to come first. Because cricket often comes second in the media world. For what he’s done from a cricket and white-ball cricket perspective, especially after where he comes from, and the support he’s gotten from his family – we must never forget that. The journey is extraordinary and could last a long time,” Pollard said. Before hanging up the phone, Pollard remembered praising his red-ball performance for India. The current perception is that Pandya does not want to play Test cricket for India anymore, but like Atum, he is determined to rise from the troubled waters.

“This is a parent’s worst nightmare,” Uribe told the outlet. “Too bad.”

Other than Uribe asking netizens to save his son, not much has been revealed about Uribe. He said in the video that his son is 50% Colombian and “for minorities, it’s hard to find the perfect partner.”

Uribe urged social media users ages 18 to 35 to visit the stem cell registry website, request a kit, take a cheek swab and send it in to find out if they are a match for Marquez or any other patient in need of a stem cell transplant. He explains that this process is “one of the easiest ways to impact the world and save lives.”

Uribe went on to explain how long it would take to find a match for his son was up to the public.

“It’s going to depend on how quickly you request the kit, how quickly you get others to sign up, and how quickly you return the kit once it’s mailed to you,” Uribe said in the video. “Remember, once you receive the kit, do your swab immediately and send it back the same day or the next day. Once the kit is received by the organization, the registry, it will take a few weeks to process it and then upload everything to the registry, so time is of the essence.”

How the process works

A nonprofit called NMDP whose goal is to save the lives of patients with blood cancers and diseases says on its website that 13 percent of its stem cell registry members are Hispanic or Latino. “But this is not enough to meet the needs of Hispanic patients seeking unrelated blood stem cell donors. To increase this number, NMDP is working to break down barriers to enrolling in the registry,” the nonprofit said, adding that every three to four minutes someone in the United States is diagnosed with blood cancer.

When a member of the NMDP registry is matched with someone who needs a stem cell transplant, the nonprofit contacts the potential donor and may request additional blood tests. Potential donors are required to complete a medical exam. The cost will be borne by NMDP.

The nonprofit will even cover all donation and travel expenses, including airfare, hotel stays and meals for potential donors and their companions. Most donations are made using circulating blood. NMDP says most donors are able to return to normal activities within one to seven days.

Absconders cannot get anticipatory bail: SC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed all high courts not to grant anticipatory bail to absconding accused and seek protection from arrest from the Constitutional Court after his co-accused was acquitted after completion of trial. A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and Vijay Bishnoi quashed the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s order granting anticipatory bail to the absconding accused and directed him to surrender and apply for regular bail. It expressed dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court’s direction to the trial court granting bail on the day the accused filed his bail plea.Judge Bishnoi, who wrote the judgment, said, “Generally speaking, absconders are not entitled to the relief of anticipatory bail. However, in certain special circumstances, if the court, after carefully reading the Criminal Intelligence Report, case diary and other relevant record materials, initially believes that the absconding defendant has not filed a case, it can exercise the power to grant anticipatory bail.”The court noted that the accused was part of a mob who not only escaped but also threatened to kill an injured person for opposing his bail plea. The judge said the co-accused’s acquittal could not justify granting him anticipatory bail as he failed to cooperate with investigations and delayed the trial.“The relief of granting anticipatory bail… sets a bad precedent and sends a message that law-abiding co-accused who are on trial are not participating seriously in the trial process and further incentivizes people to evade legal process with impunity,” the Supreme Court said. The judge directed the accused to surrender before the trial court within four weeks and seek regular bail.

Trump administration’s ICE crackdown continues despite 4,400 court rulings declaring immigration detention illegal

0

尽管有 4,400 项法院裁决宣布移民拘留非法,但特朗普政府的 ICE 镇压仍在继续The rulings challenge Trump’s departure from decades-old policy that allows immigrants living in the United States to remain free on bail while their cases are pending. Despite these court rulings, the government continued to jail people indefinitely.“It is astounding that the administration insists on asking this court to redefine or outright ignore existing law as it is clearly stated,” U.S. District Judge Thomas Johnston, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote in a recent case involving a Venezuelan detainee. The surge in cases has overwhelmed the Justice Department, forcing lawyers who normally handle criminal cases to instead defend immigration cases. Court records show the Justice Department has more than 700 attorneys handling immigration cases, including five attorneys each handling more than 1,000 habeas corpus cases. The crackdown affected many immigrants who had no criminal records. Recent cases include a five-year-old Ecuadorian boy detained in a Minnesota driveway, a Ukrainian man with valid humanitarian status and the Salvadoran father of a U.S. citizen child with autism. Some detainees face significant obstacles in seeking relief. Many people cannot afford a lawyer, and a habeas corpus petition can cost up to $5,000. Others are unaware of their rights to bring such cases or have difficulty finding legal representation. However, the government defended its actions. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said they are “working to lawfully fulfill President Trump’s authority to enforce federal immigration laws.” Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin accused “activist judges” of trying to block Trump’s deportation agenda. This situation resulted in a breach of the court order. In Minnesota, judges found the government violated 96 orders in 76 cases. Similar violations were reported in New York, where a judge had to issue an emergency ruling to prevent detainees from being transferred to other states.

Who is Lesley Groff? The woman mentioned 150,000 times in Epstein’s dossier?

According to documents recently released by the Department of Justice (U.S. Department of Justice), Grove’s name appears more than 150,000 times in the Epstein files, second only to Epstein himself.

Epstein’s executive assistant: Leslie Grove

Grove lives in New Canaan and joined Epstein’s camp in the early 2000s. She served as Epstein’s administrative assistant for nearly two decades.

Grove kept a close eye on Epstein’s schedule, meetings and travels from 2001 until his death in a car accident. New York He was jailed in 2019 after being accused of trafficking hundreds of women and girls for sex.

Grove was the primary contact for anyone seeking to exploit Epstein’s connections. According to CT Insider, if they want to get on Epstein’s plane or need help with their children going to college, they have to go to Grove.

She oversaw Epstein’s personal and professional schedule, interacting with everyone from Woody Allen to Steve Bannon to Prince Andrew.

A federal lawyer wrote in the records, but their identities were redacted, “She was Epstein’s chief secretary and was responsible for handling travel logistics for Epstein, his staff and his travel victims. So it makes sense that her last name would have so many hits.”

Multiple civil lawsuits have also been filed against Groff over the years, some of which accuse her of facilitating Epstein’s abuse by arranging “massages” and arranging travel for victims.

However, these lawsuits are either dismissed or withdrawn, often as part of settlement agreements or requirements to participate in victim compensation programs.

How did Groff become Epstein’s co-conspirator?

In 2008, Grove said in an interview with an FBI agent that she began working for Epstein in his New York office in February 2001.

After putting her resume on the Monster job site, she found the assistant position after interviewing Epstein and Maxwell. She previously worked as an event planner.

Groff, 58, often appeared in media reports alongside Sarah Kellen and Nadia Marcinkova, two former aides who victims say in lawsuits and depositions helped recruit. However, there is no evidence that Groff was a victim of Epstein like Karen and Marcenkova.

Epstein called his team of assistants, including Grove, “an extension of my brain,” and he paid them up to $200,000 a year. In addition, Grove has owned a $4.2 million home in New Canaan for more than a decade.

Epstein also volunteered to pay for full-time childcare and buy Grove a Mercedes-Benz when he considered quitting his job after giving birth. Epstein told The Times, “There was no way I was going to lose Leslie and become a mother.”

High Court and Supreme Court wait 25 years for final hearing in corruption case

NEW DELHI: For decades, the Supreme Court has bemoaned the erosion of public confidence in the judiciary as access to justice has been slow, especially for ordinary citizens. This week, the agency concluded a corruption case that had dragged on for nearly 32 years, including six years in the trial court, 14 years in the High Court and 11 years in the Supreme Court, Dhananjay Mahapatra reported. The case relates to the incident on March 24, 1994, of siphoning off 400 cement bags destined for the Aurangabad Public Works Department. Six years later, on April 3, 2000, the trial court convicted the defendant. It took the Bombay High Court more than 14 years to agree with the trial court’s judgment.Following appeal, the case was pending in the Supreme Court for ten years before being listed for final hearing before a bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan, who reserved the verdict on August 21 last year. On Friday, nearly six months later, Justice Mahadevan acquitted the accused.Justice Mahadevan said, “Both the trial court and the High Court were of the view that the appellant (accused) failed to provide any satisfactory explanation or documentary proof in possession of (cement bags). These findings are substantially factual and are supported by the evidence on record.” Despite the evidence against the accused, Justices Nagarathna and Mahadevan acquitted the accused, saying the prosecution had charged them under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act and cement was not a commodity covered by the Act on the date of suction.“Having said that, considering the nature of the charges and the evidence collected, the investigating agency should have invoked appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code,” the statement said, acquitting the accused and saying, “This lapse, therefore, is solely the responsibility of the investigating agency.”
