“We are playing the same brand of cricket that we want to play. Batting first on this wicket is a better option. Ishan thought of something creative. After 0/1, someone has to take responsibility and the way he handled it was amazing.”The decisive moment came when Ishan Kishan smashed a stunning 77 off 40 balls, including 10 fours and 3 sixes, to put India in a dominant position. Tilak Varma (25) and Suryakumar Yadav (32) provided crucial support to ensure India reached 175/7 in challenging conditions. Shivam Dube bowled a quick 27 runs in the death over to take the total to 176.Pakistan’s response never progressed. Hardik Pandya Batting in the first over, Sahibzada Farhan hit a four-ball duck. Jasprit Bumrah then broke the top order, sending Saim Ayub and captain Salman Agha back to the pavilion within two overs. Iran, US indirect talks: Tehran's top diplomat heads to Geneva for second round of talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi left Tehran on Sunday for Geneva to attend the second round of indirect nuclear talks with the United States, state media reported, a development confirmed by AFP.According to Agence France-Presse, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Araghchi “led a diplomatic and technical delegation that left Tehran on Sunday evening for Geneva to conduct the second round of nuclear negotiations and hold a series of diplomatic consultations.” “Iran-US indirect nuclear talks will be held on Tuesday under the mediation and good offices of Oman.”

‘If sanctions are lifted…’: Iran makes big offer to US in nuclear talks WATCH

The talks follow the first round of talks in Muscat on February 6, when Tehran and Washington resumed talks months after previous efforts failed. Those talks collapsed last June after Israel launched a bombing campaign against Iran, triggering a 12-day conflict that included a U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.Oman again mediated discussions. During his visit to Geneva, Araghchi is expected to meet with his Swiss and Omani counterparts as well as International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi and other international officials, the foreign ministry said. Switzerland has long represented U.S. interests in Iran since the two countries severed diplomatic ties following the 1980 hostage crisis. The re-engagement comes amid rising tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme. U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that Washington could take military action if Tehran does not curb its nuclear activities and deployed an aircraft carrier group to the region after Iran cracked down on anti-government protests last month. Iran has said it would retaliate if an attack occurred, while Gulf Arab states warned an escalation could spark a wider regional conflict. Recently, Tehran has also said it may scale back its nuclear program if the United States agrees to lift sanctions. The Trump administration insists Iran must stop all uranium enrichment, but Tehran has rejected the demand. Iran insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, although it has enriched uranium to 60% purity in the past, close to weapons-grade levels.Agence France-Presse reported that Araghchi led an Iranian delegation to hold talks with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Muscat on February 6.Fars news agency quoted Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hamid Gambari as saying that Tehran was seeking an agreement that would bring economic benefits to both countries, including in aviation, mining, oil and gas. “For this agreement to be viable, it is critical that the United States is also able to benefit from it in areas with the potential for strong and rapid economic returns,” he said.(Based on input from each agency)

Bhu-Aadhaar to allocate unique 14-digit identifier for every plot in Delhi; end border dispute: CMO

The Delhi government has launched an initiative to issue ‘Bhu-Aadhaar’ cards based on a unique 14-digit identification code for every plot of land in the city, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday, in a move aimed at ending disputes related to land boundaries. Drone surveying and high-resolution imaging will be used to create new digital land maps of Delhi, she said, claiming that Bhu-Aadhaar is a “revolutionary step” towards realizing the Prime Minister’s visionDigital India‘. The Unique Plot Identification Number (ULPIN), known as Bhu-Aadhaar, is part of the Digital India Land Records Modernization Program (DILRMP) launched by the Center in 2021. The move is part of the government’s drive to modernize land records in Delhi and free citizens from long-standing land disputes, the Delhi CMO said in a statement. The implementation of ULPIN has been entrusted to the IT department of the revenue department, which will also be supported by the Survey of India. The Survey of India is acquiring around 2 terabytes of high-quality geospatial data and drone-based orthorectified imagery (ORI) to generate accurate ULPINs for all districts in Delhi, including the 48 villages already covered under the SVAMITVA programme, the statement said. Earlier, Rs 132 crore had been allocated for the project and the financial management was overseen by the IT department. The government will now expand the system in Delhi in a phased manner following standard operating procedures and a clear timeline, it said. The pilot project in Tilangpur Kotla village of West Delhi district has been completed and 274 ULPIN records have been successfully generated. The Bhu-Aadhaar system will ensure complete transparency in land ownership. The CMO said the 14-digit code will be geo-referenced thereby minimizing land boundary disputes. This move will facilitate the coordination of land data among various government departments and effectively curb fraudulent transactions and duplicate registrations. For citizens, the move is expected to bring ease and convenience. Instead of browsing through multiple documents to determine land ownership, a single number can provide comprehensive details of a property, the statement added.

SNAP 2026 changes: Food bans, expanded work rules and updated benefit limits; check for full details

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) plays a critical role in supporting low-income families in the United States. By 2026, multiple changes to the SNAP program will take effect in at least 18 states, with significant impacts on beneficiaries.

Key SNAP changes in 2026: State-level food bans and updated benefit limits (AP)

Junk Food Ban: Related to MAHA Initiative

The first big change is a ban on buying junk food break. This is part of the Trump administration’s Making America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative. The effort focuses on tackling chronic disease and encouraging healthier eating habits across the country.

“With the MAHA initiative, we are taking bold, historic steps to reverse the chronic disease epidemic that has taken root in this country for far too long,” said U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said, “Thank you to the 18 governors who are leading the charge on SNAP reform to restore the health of Americans, especially our children. Their courageous leadership is exactly what we need to make America healthy again.”

What are the new SNAP food restrictions?

Eighteen states, including Texas, Florida and Indiana, have begun restricting purchases of certain items under SNAP. Supermarket checkout systems have been updated to automatically block payments for specific products, including soft and sugary drinks, sweets and sweets, and products high in artificial sweeteners or added sugar.

If a SNAP recipient attempts to purchase these items, their EBT card will decline payment for the restricted product. However, the remaining approved groceries in the deal will continue.

Expanded work requirements under SNAP

One of the most significant changes for 2026 is the expansion of work requirements. Previously, adults aged between 55 and 64 were generally exempt from mandatory work activity rules, but this exemption ended on February 1.

Now, adults under 64 without proof of disability must work, volunteer, or participate in a vocational training program for at least 80 hours a month. Anyone who fails to meet this requirement for three consecutive months within a three-year period will automatically lose their benefits.

New limits and deductions

With new restrictions in place, U.S. Department of Agriculture Updated several limitations and deductions for this fiscal year.

Home internet is now considered an essential utility, allowing families to deduct the cost and potentially receive higher monthly SNAP benefits.

The maximum benefit, subject to cost-of-living adjustments, has been set at $994 for a family of four, and health exemptions have been expanded to include temporary illnesses if proper documentation is provided.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kieron Rijiju It said on Sunday that the debate and voting on the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of the Lok Sabha will be held on March 9.“On March 9, we will debate the no-confidence motion against the Speaker in the Lok Sabha,” Rijiju told news agency PTI.

“The rule is to start the discussion on the first day. There will be a vote after the debate,” he added.Additionally, news agency ANI cited sources as saying that a fast-track review would be conducted in accordance with regulations.Previously, MPs submitted a no-confidence motion against the bill. About Birlasigned by 118 MPs. Opposition MPs claimed it was an act of “blatant partisanship” and the opposition leader was not allowed to speak. However, this is not the first time that the opposition has expressed no confidence in the chairman. In early 2024, the opposition filed a similar motion against Jagdeep Dhankhar, then Chairman of the House of Federation and Vice-President.History also records at least three instances since independence of no-confidence motions being tabled to remove the Speaker. The first was in 1954 against the first Lok Sabha Speaker GV Mavalankar, when MP Vigneshwar Misra claimed that the Speaker was unfair. In 1966, opposition MPs moved a motion against Speaker Sardar Hukum Singh, led by Madhu Limaye and chaired by Deputy Speaker SV Krishnamoorthy Rao. On April 15, 1987, the opposition MPs moved a third motion asking CPM MP Somnath Chatterjee to remove Speaker Balram Jakhar, and Deputy Speaker Thambi Durai presided over it. The motion was rejected by the House of Representatives. What was Nehru’s message to the MPs when the opposition moved a no-confidence motion against Speaker GV MavalankarThe first time this happened was on December 18, 1954, when the opposition tabled a resolution to remove the then Speaker, Mavalanka. More than 50 members stood in support, and debate took place before recognition was granted.first prime minister of india Jawaharlal NehruIn 1954, during the debate on the opposition resolution to remove Speaker GV Mavalankar, the message to the MPs was that they were not bound by any whip or directive and that all legislators had to consider the issue “irrespective of party affiliation”.He urged Lok Sabha members not to view the issue from a party perspective but as a matter of dignity of the House. It was a lively debate, with the opposition, although limited in numbers, lashing out at Nehru and accusing the Speaker of partisanship.Nehru, intervening in the debate, said: “If I may, I want to address the House in my capacity and in my capacity as the Leader of the House, not as the leader of the majority party, not as the leader of the majority party. As far as this majority party is concerned, I want to tell them that none of them are bound by any whip or any instruction: let them vote as they wish.” This is not a party issue. This is an issue that should be considered by the House, by everyone, regardless of party affiliation.“So let us try not to see this as a party issue but as an issue for members of the House because of course this matter affects the Honorable Speaker, but it affects the high dignity of the House as a Parliament and it affects the first citizen of this country, the Speaker of the House,” he added. The then Prime Minister said that what is said about the Speaker and what is done about the Speaker affects every one of us who calls ourselves a member of the House.“I hope members recognize this because I have been sad and very sad since this matter was raised in the House. We have known the Speaker for many years and we have seen him perform and some of us may not see him quite the same as others; that is possible,” he said.“As it happens, some of us don’t particularly like his decisions or his rulings. It’s one thing to not like or disagree with a ruling or even, if I may say so, to be a little annoyed by what happened. These things happen. But it is a completely different matter to challenge the sincerity of those who uphold the honor of the House,” Nehru said.“I am not saying that it is not possible to move a motion against the Speaker at all. Of course, the Constitution provides for this. No one questions the right of the Opposition or any member of the House to move this motion. I do not deny that right because it is constitutionally conferred. The point is not the legal right but the propriety; the desirability of doing so,” he said.Nehru then vehemently defended the speaker and lashed out at the opposition for questioning his sincerity. With an absolute majority of more than 360 members in Congress, the resolution was defeated by a voice vote.

Imran Khan undergoes eye exam in Adiala jail: PTI calls process 'malicious', questions exclusion of family and personal doctors

PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan underwent an eye examination at Adiala jail on Sunday following a Supreme Court order, a process the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called “malicious” and questioned the exclusion of his family and personal doctors.A five-person medical team conducted detailed examinations for about an hour, news website Dawn reported. Doctors took his blood samples, measured his blood pressure and brought their own equipment. The process reportedly began after a two-and-a-half-hour wait and a report is expected to be compiled soon.Soon after the examination concluded at around 5.30 pm, PTI issued a statement on X rejecting the surgery and objecting to the absence of Imran’s family and personal doctors.“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf categorically rejects the recent move by the government and the prison administration to conduct a medical examination of the eyes of former prime minister Imran Khan in Adiala jail. The government’s claim that it has sent a message to the party leadership to reach the jail at the time of the examination is actually a crude attempt to divert attention from the core issue,” the party said.Explaining its objections, the statement added, “This matter has never been a matter of the party leadership’s absence. On such a sensitive and delicate medical matter, the constitutional, moral and legal decision-making power belongs to Imran Khan’s family. The family cannot take an informed decision until Imran Khan’s personal doctor is present for examination. Therefore, there is neither any moral justification nor any legal basis for a symbolic invitation to the party leadership.”Imran’s sister Aleema Khanum also said that she would not accept any medical board without the approval of his personal doctor. Referring to reports that Imran Khan may be shifted to Al Shifa Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi, she reiterated, “Our demands have been clear from the beginning. No treatment should be given without the presence and approval of Imran Khan’s personal doctors and family members.”She further said, “We do not accept any medical committee they have set up and controlled! We do not accept any reports or results they produce.”Questioning the exclusion of family members and doctors recommended by Imran Khan’s team, she asked: “Why did they refuse the supervision of Imran Khan’s personal doctor? Why did they refuse the appearance of Imran Khan’s family? Why such a fierce boycott? Are they hiding something?”The examination was conducted after the Supreme Court directed the formation of a medical committee to assess Imran’s condition. The order came after he claimed on February 12 that he retained only 15% vision in his right eye. The court also gave him until February 16 to talk to the children.Although government officials said Saturday that Imran might be transferred to a hospital, no transfer had occurred by Sunday afternoon. At 3:45 p.m., his sister Noreen Khanum said an ambulance arrived at the prison to pick him up.“But it is unacceptable to us if we and Mr Khan’s personal doctor cannot be trusted,” she said. The prison director dismissed reports of the transfer as “rumors” and clarified that only medical examinations were being carried out.“The medical team will examine Imran’s eyes, conduct different tests and decide if he needs to be transferred to a hospital or if he can be kept in prison and continue to receive treatment here,” the official said.Imran had earlier undergone a medical procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad on the evening of January 24, a development that was later confirmed with limited information shared with the family.Imran’s personal doctors Asim Yusuf and Faisal Sultan also called for a comprehensive evaluation at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, news agency PTI reported citing Dawn.“In addition to providing urgent retinal specialist care for Imran Khan’s central retinal vein occlusion and severe vision loss, Imran Khan also required a comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment of his underlying condition at a tertiary care hospital such as Shifa International Hospital Islamabad,” they said in a joint video statement.Meanwhile, the Tehreek-e-Insaf Pakistan (TTAP) alliance continued its sit-in at the Parliament House for a third day, demanding that Imran receive treatment at a hospital of his personal doctor’s choice.PTI MNA Asad Qaiser told reporters, “We will not compromise on Imran’s health.”A TTAP leader said the initial understanding to transfer Imran to Shifa International broke down due to demands for a change in the composition of the medical board. The coalition also claimed that access to food, water and medicine was blocked inside the Capitol for the third day in a row.The coalition described the reported denial of medical care to Senator Abbas as an “extreme and reprehensible act” and said, “Putting any political differences ahead of human compassion and medical needs is the worst form of oppression.”TTAP vowed to continue the protests, saying: “History proves that brutal machinations, sieges and repression have never suppressed movements or forced staunch right-wingers to abandon their demands.”The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan expressed serious concern over the health of PTI-affiliated prisoners, particularly Imran Khan and Yasmeen Rashid, and urged authorities to ensure immediate independent medical examination and uninterrupted access to treatment.

'Desperate PR campaign': Congress calls PM Modi's interview 'scripted', claims move was to divert attention from trade deals and farmers

New Delhi: Congress on Sunday reacted strongly to Prime Minister Narendra ModiIn an interview with the Press Trust of India news agency, he called it a “well-planned and desperate PR campaign” and claimed that its purpose was to divert people’s attention from key issues.Party leader Jairam Ramesh said the interview was aimed at diverting attention from criticism of the federal budget and opposition attacks on the government in parliament.“The Prime Minister knows that this year’s Budget is a murky squib and shows every sign of intellectual exhaustion. Markets reacted negatively and investors were indifferent. So he felt it necessary to give an interview two weeks after the Budget was presented and days after it was torn apart by the opposition in Parliament. As usual, Modi-esque quips mean little in reality. ” Ramesh said in a post on X.Ramesh claimed that Prime Minister Modi is facing pressure over the trade deal with the United States and farmers’ issues, and said that Prime Minister Modi is trying to change public opinion through media propaganda.“The Prime Minister is under siege and attack for capitulating to the US on the trade deal and now he is resorting to his favorite headline management tactic. He is trying to divert attention from his betrayal of thousands of farmers and other acts of capitulation. His so-called interview is not an interview but a well-planned and desperate PR campaign,” he further wrote. Ramesh added in Hindi: “Pradhan Mantri also bowed and sat down.”Prime Minister Modi said in an interview that the private sector will play a decisive role in driving India’s next phase of economic transformation, claiming that reforms have been the core commitment of the Indian government “in letter and spirit”. He said the next leap towards ‘Viksit Bharat’ will depend on bold investments by the industry in innovation, long-term capabilities and global competitiveness. The Prime Minister said the latest Union Budget was not a “can’t miss it” moment born out of compulsion but a “we are ready” moment born out of preparation and inspiration, claiming that it reflected India’s “desire” to become a developed nation. He maintained that none of his government’s budget had been prepared with the attitude of making a routine “bahi khata” document.Highlighting digital growth and infrastructure expansion, Prime Minister Modi said India has emerged as a global digital leader due to reforms in transactions through the UPI platform, adding that data centers will create a large number of employment opportunities. He also said that India is witnessing the largest infrastructure development in its history and stressed that the government will make every effort to support and modernize the defense forces. The Prime Minister criticized the record of the previous UPA government, saying that during his tenure, negotiations would start and then break down, with little substantive results being achieved despite lengthy negotiations. He also said that political stability and predictability have restored investor confidence in India and asserted that every decision taken by the government is guided by the welfare of women.
