What is an ICE detainer? What happens next?
An ICE detainer is a request the agency makes to local law enforcement to notify those individuals who are in the country illegally and that ICE will detain them pending judicial proceedings. ICE is notified before such offenders are released. Once detained by ICE, these individuals may be held in immigration custody and face deportation proceedings.
