Israel issues evacuation warning; attack in Lebanon leaves 1 dead, 4 injured

BEIRUT: An Israeli attack in southern Lebanon on Sunday killed at least one person and wounded four aid workers, the Lebanese health ministry said, as attacks continued against the country despite a fragile truce in its war with Hezbollah. The ministry said in a separate statement that an attack in Arab Salim killed at least one person and wounded three others, including a child, while another attack in Srifa wounded five people, including four aid workers from the Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Council.“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs once again condemns these repeated attacks and recalls the provisions of Article 19 of the Geneva Conventions regarding the need to verify that medical facilities are safe and free from any danger caused by attacks in conflict areas, whereas the opposite is currently happening,” the statement said. The Israeli military issued a new evacuation warning in southern Lebanon on Sunday for villages outside its occupied areas. The warning covers more than 10 villages and towns, including several in the Nabatiya region north of the Litani River, south of which Israel has stationed troops. The warning included Arabsalim and Srifa.Lebanon’s state-run state news agency reported a series of Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, including in towns not mentioned in evacuation warnings.A fragile ceasefire has been in place between Israel and Lebanon since April 17, aimed at suspending violence between the Hezbollah armed group and Israeli forces. On Wednesday, Israel’s military chief of staff, Eyal Zamir, threatened to attack Hezbollah “beyond the yellow line,” which marks areas under Israeli control. “Any threat against our communities or our forces will be neutralized wherever they are – including beyond the Yellow Line and north of the Litani River,” he said during a visit to the Israeli military. The ceasefire text gives Israel the right to take action against “planned, imminent or ongoing attacks”
