Artificial Intelligence ADMKJayasudha L received 76,735 votes against DMKMahalakshmi Govarthanan, was elected with a margin of 5,631 votes.Alani constituency is witnessing a fierce and high-profile contest in the 2026 parliamentary elections. The DMK has fielded Mahalakshmi Govarthanan with the aim of flipping the seat after a near defeat in the previous cycle. She is up against the AIADMK’s L. Jayasudha, who is committed to sustaining the party’s ten-year winning streak in this area. TVK’s A. Venkatesan Kumar further shaped the political landscape. In the 2021 elections, Sevvoor S. Ramachandran (AIADMK) won by a slim margin of 102,961 votes (46.86% vote share), defeating SS Anbalagan (DMK) who polled 99,833 votes (45.43% vote share) by a slim margin of 3,128 votes. In the 2016 elections, Sevvoor S. Ramachandran (AIADMK) won with 94,074 votes (44.89% vote share), defeating DMK’s S. Babu with 7,327 votes. Voter turnout reached 89.23%, a significant increase from 2021’s 79.59%. Much of this rise was driven by the Special Intensification Amendment (SIR). Alani (Parliamentary Constituency No. 67) is world-famous as a major center of silk saree production. Located in Tiruvannamalai district, its economy is closely related to weaving and agriculture. As a general category seat with a highly active electorate, it is an important indicator of the political mood of northern Tamil Nadu’s industrial workforce and rural agricultural population. The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Election was held in one go on April 23, with a turnout of 85.15%, and the results were announced on May 4. The election was a tight three-way contest, challenging the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle is mainly between the DMK-led alliance, which includes Stalin-led INC and other parties, and the AIADMK-led alliance led by Edappadi K Palaniswami, as well as the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) marks actor Vijay’s first entry into politics as the third force across all 234 constituencies.
