“An incident occurred on East Main Street today at approximately 4 p.m. and the Freehold Borough Police Department is on scene. No further information is available at this time. Please avoid the area if possible,” an update from the Freehold Borough read.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office also additional “Members of the MCPO Major Crimes Bureau and the Freehold Borough Police Department are actively investigating the shooting of an adult male that occurred this afternoon on East Main Street between South and Center Streets. This is believed to be an isolated incident and poses no further danger to the community. We ask the public to avoid the immediate area while the investigation continues. More information will be released as it becomes available.”

The incident occurred on East Main Street between South Street and Center Street, where an adult male was shot and killed. News 12 New Jersey reporter Syma Chowdhry famous “Police are investigating a shooting inside the Freehold Public Library on Main Street in downtown Freehold.” Jim Murdock, same publication additional “Multiple sources confirm that a shooting occurred at the Freehold Public Library on Main Street.” The reporter added, “The victim reportedly suffered two wounds and was on his way to JSUMC.” Murdock also quoted sources as saying that as of 5 p.m., no one was in custody.
Reaction to Freehold shooting
Several people reacted to news of the shooting in Freehold. “Right there, probably right before it happened,” one person wrote. Another added: “Wow!!! What the hell is going on.”
Some prayed for those involved. One sent it to “everyone,” while another prayed for the “victims.” Notably, authorities have named only one victim so far. “Everywhere you go… metal detectors are required. We live in such a sad world,” another added.
