YouTube was reportedly down in the United States on Tuesday. At the time of writing, DownDetector recorded over 2,80,000 people facing power outages Youtube.
Most of the issues appear to be with the app, but there have been complaints of issues with the website as well. Users have also reported problems with YouTube TV, with DownDetector recording more than 7,000 complaints at the time of writing.
The cause of the outage is unclear, but it appears to be global, with complaints filed from people around the world.
YouTube posted statement said: “We know some of you are having issues accessing YouTube right now. Our team is aware of this and we will provide updates as soon as they are received.”
Several people took to social media and the DownDetector comments section to express the issues they faced.
One person said “I like the video in the playlist.” Another person pointed out that they couldn’t log in.
Another person shared a screenshot of their YouTube page, noting that “YouTube just crashed. All I get is a blank page with nothing on it. The only thing that seems to work is the sidebar on the left. Everything else is closed.”
Many others also expressed their displeasure. “Why YouTube crashes so often,” one person pointed out. Another added: “YouTube is down in the US, what does that mean? I was trying to watch something while eating.” Another quipped: “The end of the world is here, YouTube…is down!”.
One user also shared that many users complained about the “something went wrong” screen they received.
If users receive a “Something went wrong” message on YouTube, they should immediately try refreshing the page, restarting the app or device, and checking their internet connection.
If this doesn’t work either, then the browser or application cache and cookies should be cleared, disabled VPNand update the YouTube app. However, since many people are facing this outage, it seems to be an issue on YouTube’s side and individual fixes are unlikely to work. People should check if the server is outage, which seems to be the case here. DownDetector noted that users reported experiencing problems since 8:04 PM ET.
According to DownDetector, affected areas in the United States include chicagoWashington, New York and Boston.
The hardest-hit areas on the West Coast include San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Seattle. “When was the last time YouTube was down??” one person asked, while another seemed to blame AI, saying “YouTube is down. I guess the AI is still working.”
