UK Weather: UK Weather: Rain clearing, but cool, showery conditions to remain this week | World News

Rain and showers set to dominate UK weather this week/Picture: File

After a period of warm and dry weather in parts of the UK, much of the UK is set to face a cooler and more unsettled week as rain, sunshine and showers move across the country. The Met Office said wet and windy weather will hit many areas on Monday, particularly in England and Wales, before conditions gradually improve in the west. However, this improvement is unlikely to last long as showers are expected to hit the UK over the next few days.Forecasters said the rain would continue to move southeastward throughout the day, gradually clearing in the late afternoon and evening.Northern Ireland and Scotland started the day with sunshine and frequent showers, with this shower pattern expected to extend to many other parts of the UK by the end of the day.Temperatures in early June will still be cooler than many people would normally expect, with strong winds bringing a cooler feel to some areas, the Met Office said.Commuters in parts of southern England may experience difficult travel conditions during heavy rain, while outdoor activities may face disruption as showers arrive.Drier weather is expected to become drier across much of England and Wales on Monday evening as the main rainband finally dissipates. However, forecasters warned that showers would continue to affect Northern Ireland and Scotland before spreading south to the rest of the country overnight. If the skies remain clear for an extended period of time, temperatures may drop significantly, resulting in quite cold nights by June standards. Rural areas and shelter locations may experience the coolest conditions before dawn.Typical early summer sunshine and showers are expected across the UK on Tuesday. Many areas will see bright spells during the day, but showers are expected to be widespread, particularly in northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Met Office said some of these showers could become heavy and thundery, producing brief periods of heavy rainfall and gusty winds.Despite the sunshine, temperatures are expected to remain cool for this time of year, with many places struggling to regain the warmth of recent weeks. The broader outlook points to little change through mid-to-late week.More sunshine and showers are expected in many areas on Wednesday. Another spell of rain is expected to move eastward across the country on Thursday, before sunny skies with scattered showers on Friday. While much of the UK will remain below average, slightly warmer weather is likely to start to hit the far south-east of England by the end of the week. The overall message from the Met Office is that the UK will continue to experience variable weather patterns, with no long-term stable summer weather in sight. For those planning travel, outdoor activities or sporting events, it’s worth keeping an umbrella with you and regularly checking the local weather forecast, as the weather is constantly changing on a daily basis.
