At the DNPA Conclave 2026, policymakers and industry leaders gathered to discuss the evolving digital ecosystem and the challenges of governing communications in the age of artificial intelligence. At the conference “Regulatory Reset: Governing India’s Digital Communications in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, Electronics and Information Technology Minister S Krishnan outlined how India seeks to balance free speech with platform responsibility. He said: “Freedom of speech is subject to certain restrictions under Article 19(2) of the Constitution. The grounds are very clear. Therefore, reasonable restrictions on free speech can be imposed on these grounds. The courts have repeatedly upheld this. “

Krishnan added that social media regulation does not exceed the constitutional mandate. He highlighted Section 69A of the IT Act as a key regulatory mechanism which addresses certain limitations allowed under Section 19(2). Other grounds provided for in Article 19(2), such as defamation and obscenity, will be dealt with separately legal regulations but form part of a wider regulatory framework.Krishnan added that the government operates within the legal framework. He stressed that platforms operating in India must not violate valid restrictions under the Constitution, adding that if they want to operate in India, they should abide by Indian laws. When asked why sensational content tends to gain wider impact, Krishnan said it was a reflection of society on a deeper level. He also highlighted new government regulations on labeling synthetically generated content to ensure users understand what they are consuming. His speech underscored the government’s position that while digital innovation and artificial intelligence are reshaping communications, regulatory oversight will continue to operate strictly within the confines of the constitution.

Delhi GST Policy Case: How Congress Reacts After Arvind Kejriwal Gets Court Relief from Bharatiya Janata Party

0

New Delhi: congress and bjp Former Delhi chief minister’s acquittal sparks strong reaction on Friday Arvind Kejriwal and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on the Delhi excise policy case. However, AAP’s on-again, off-again India Bloc ally Congress has expressed displeasure over the leader’s removal, alleging that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was an “Icchadhari Naag” using the central inquiry agency for political purposes.Congress leader Pawan Khera claimed KejriwalReleasing the bill ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab and Gujarat is part of a “strategy” to “weaken” the age-old party.

Cong calls BJP ‘Icchadhari Naag’

In a post on “BJP is not a political party. It is a shape-shifter, a wish-fulfilling snake – Icchadhari Naag. It will do whatever it takes to achieve one obsessive goal: to defeat the Congress – Congress Mukt Bharat,” Kaira said.“For 12 years, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party” has been spewing venom at the TMC. What now? Narendra Modi himself praised it — not out of respect, but as a cheap shot at the Congress,” he posted on X.“Elections are coming soon. So the script is predictable. Cases against Congress leaders will suddenly accelerate and at the same time, cases against their convenient ‘allies’ in AAP and others will quietly fade away in view of the elections in Gujarat and Punjab,” Kaira said. He added that P Chidambaram has been dragged back into the limelight due to the upcoming polls in Tamil Nadu.“This is the BJP’s playbook: vendetta is governance and institutions are campaign tools,” he further claimed. His remarks came after a Rouse Avenue court acquitted Kejriwal and Sisodia of all charges in corruption charges related to the Delhi Expenditure Policy case.A visibly emotional Kejriwal, speaking to reporters outside the court, praised the verdict as “the truth will always prevail”.“We have always said that the BJP treats the investigative agency like its own cadre. With elections in Punjab and Gujarat around the corner, Arvind Kejriwal emerges after being purged from the “washing machine” as the real goal of the BJP is a Congress-less India. It’s all about elections and how to weaken Congress. This is the only aim of the BJP,” Hera told reporters.

BJP says ‘legal process is far from over’

The BJP, however, insists the legal battle is not over yet. Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP’s IT cell, said the kickback charges were serious and argued that the acquittal was handed down by a lower court. He noted that high courts, including the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India, had issued strong opinions in related proceedings. “It remains to be seen whether this judgment will withstand scrutiny by the High Court. The legal process is far from over,” he said.Malviya also questioned why the Delhi government canceled the excise policy after irregularities were discovered and expressed concern over the alleged destruction of mobile phones and SIM cards.BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “The lower court acquitted him without evidence. It was a technical issue and it was right that hundreds of mobile phones and SIM cards were destroyed…” “The CBI will take appropriate steps to address the issue of destruction of evidence. As far as the parties are concerned, it will give a structured reply after getting all the details… If the entire allegations are baseless, how can the court allow them to be framed?…” he added.

The judge concluded that no prima facie case was established against any of the 23 defendants and ordered their release. The court also said it would recommend a departmental probe against the CBI officials for making civil servant Kuldeep Singh the prime accused in the case. “No material has been found against you.
