'Trying to hit six when you need 160!': Rajeev Shukla baffled by SRH's batting approach after collapse in Ahmedabad

Former IPL president and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has weighed in on Sunrises Hyderabad’s humiliating defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans, raising questions about the batting methods that led to their dramatic collapse in Ahmedabad.GT’s all-round dominant performance saw them top the IPL 2026 standings with an 82-match winning streak. After being asked to bat first, Gujarat posted 168/5 thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s 61 and Washington Sundar’s crucial half-century.In reply, SRH’s explosive batting line-up failed miserably and were bowled out for just 86 runs in 14.5 overs. Gujarat’s bowling attack devastates Hyderabad Jason Holder and Kamuzeng Rabada Each took three wickets.

Post-match, Rajeev Shukla gave an interesting reaction on X, criticizing SRH for displaying an overly aggressive batting mentality despite chasing a manageable total.“Why lose a wicket by trying to hit a six as soon as the wicket comes when only 160 runs need to be scored” – Shukla wrote on X.(“Why lose wickets trying to hit a six from the start when you just need to score 160?”)In T20 cricket, a target of 169 is often considered a chaseable one, especially for a batting line-up that features power batsmen such as Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen. However, SRH’s signature attacking style backfired badly against Gujarat’s disciplined bowling attack.Despite heavy defeat, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori defended his batting unit and characterized the performance as a rare off day rather than a larger issue.“We knew we needed to get off to a strong start and unfortunately we weren’t able to do that tonight,” Vettori said after the game. “If Gujarat had scored 200, the chase would have been very difficult, but at 169 we sincerely believed we had a chance.”He added that the team remained committed to its aggressive philosophy and refused to blame the batsmen for a poor game.“Our batting team has performed well all season long. Every team in the IPL goes through some hiccups at some stage and tonight was ours. We knew exactly how we wanted to play and the conditions we faced,” Vettori concluded.

“Annie and Tommaso’s neighbor appeared on our livestream tonight and said he hasn’t seen them or their vehicle in over a week. Where is Nancy Guthrie?” Riches, who goes by the nickname JLR, wrote on X.

It’s worth noting that Jaguar Land Rover has been covering Guthrie’s case Spent some time on the ground in Tucson, Arizona. He is often asked questions about the 84-year-old’s daughter Anne and husband Tommaso.

While Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has made it clear that no member of the Guthrie family is a suspect in the case, Anne and Tommaso remain a subject of curiosity and concern for a number of reasons. Annie and Tommaso reportedly lived near Guthrie’s home in Catalina Foothills, where she is believed to have been taken. The octogenarian had reportedly dined with Anne the night before, before Tommaso allegedly gave her a ride home. She was reported missing the next day, making Annie and Tommaso the last people to see Guthrie before she was taken away.

Former NewsNation reporter Ashleigh Banfield also reported that Cione was a possible suspect in the case, but the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which led the investigation, quickly dismissed that claim. Still, interest persists in aspects such as why the Pima County Sheriff’s Department held on to Annie and Tommaso’s car for so long before returning it. Experts sharing insights into the case said authorities had to take the car apart to search for possible clues and DNA evidence, and it would take time to put it back together again.

Where are Anne Guthrie and Tommaso Scioni now?

It is unclear where Anne Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni are currently. There are no mainstream media reports indicating they have moved from their Tucson home. If the neighbors are correct about not seeing them or the vehicle for over a week, then they may have decided to take a break and move away somewhere.

Anne and Tommaso have been under scrutiny, with YouTube users tracking the Guthrie case and some camping outside the home. One of the people shared an alleged interaction in which Cione could be heard asking to be left alone.

Despite the public interest in Anne and Tommaso, sister and “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie defended the pair. She slammed all the speculation surrounding the couple and said they both loved Guthrie very much.

Former army commander who led western front in Operation Sindoor says Pakistan is unlikely to give up proxy war

LUCKNOW: Pakistan’s military still sees proxy war as a low-cost strategic tool against India and is unlikely to abandon terrorism as a tool of national policy despite repeated setbacks, former Western Army chief Lieutenant General Manoj Katiyar said on Tuesday.Lt Gen Katyal, while speaking at ‘Op Sindoor 2.0: Lessons, Strategies and Predictions’ organized by Lucknow-based strategic think tank STRIVE India under the auspices of Headquarters Central Command, said the Pakistan Army sustains terrorism because it enhances the army’s internal relevance and fuels its anti-India rhetoric.

Operation Sindoor: 14 days of silence revolutionized India’s war doctrine

In May 2025, the Indian military carried out Operation Sindoor, in which troops from the Western Command played an important role, with Lieutenant General Katiyar serving as the commander-in-chief. He retired from the Army on March 31, 2026, after 40 years of service.Talking about India’s escalating response after the terrorist attacks in Uri, Pulwama, Pahalgam and other incidents, Lieutenant General Katyal pointed out that the scale, depth and duration of Indian military operations have continued to increase. He stressed that India’s future response should not be limited to tactical punishment but should also impose ongoing military, political and psychological costs on Pakistan. “Deterrence must evolve into compliance because the costs of supporting proxy wars are too heavy for Pakistan to bear,” he said.Lieutenant General Qatiar hinted at the perception battle surrounding the outcome of Operation Sindoor on social media and international platforms. He further stated that in modern conflicts, “victory should be seen with one’s own eyes” and emphasized the importance of perception management in war. “Special emphasis must be placed on information warfare and cyber warfare, as these capabilities will play a decisive role in shaping the perception of victory and weakening the enemy’s combat capabilities,” he said.Underscoring the changing character of warfare, the former Army commander said future conflicts will increasingly be multi-domain in nature, being fought simultaneously on land, air, cyber, space, information and the electromagnetic spectrum. He drew lessons from Operation Sindor and ongoing global conflicts, emphasizing the increasing importance of drones, precision strikes, electronic warfare, intelligence fusion and compressed decision-making cycles. He also stressed the urgent need to improve military diplomacy and strengthen relations with friendly countries and neighboring countries.

Madhav Tiwari: From ‘I want to be a batsman’ to ‘100% bowler, 100% batsman’ for DC

Dharamshala: Madhav Tiwari still remembers how tiring bowling used to feel. As a 13-year-old in Indore, new to pick-up cricket after switching schools, batting was the only thing that really excited him. Bowling feels like labor by comparison. “I really enjoy batting. I want to be a batsman. Bowling is very tiring. You have to use your body a lot. I find batting easy. You can bat for as long as you want,” Tiwari told TOI after scripting Delhi Capitals’ three-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab in Dharamshala on Monday.

Yet it was his bowling – sharp, heavy, fearless – that first changed the game at the HPCA Stadium. Then came the finishing touches to the bat. in his second intense pulsed light After coming on the scene, the 22-year-old all-around player’s performance immediately impressed people. Who is this boy? where is he from? How did Delhi Capitals discover these exciting Indian talents? On a surface with ample seam movement, Tiwari bowled with the confidence of an experienced man. With speeds in the 137-140 km/h range, he attacks hard roads mercilessly and strikes out at crucial moments. His biggest breakthrough came when he took a wicket from the dangerous Priyansh Arya, who had threatened to bowl DC out. Tiwari later came back to dismiss Cooper Connolly with a cleverly disguised slower bouncer, finishing with figures of 2/40. “I think wickets help with hard length balls,” Tiwari said. “So I stick with that at the beginning and then when I come back try to mix it up with wide yorkers and short balls.” But the night was only half done. Amid the tense 211 incident, Delhi still needed to remain calm, and Tiwari did just that. When the game came to a head, he smashed an unbeaten 18 off just 8 deliveries, including 2 boundaries and 6 boundaries, to help Delhi complete their most successful T20 chase in Dharamshala. Playing alongside him will be Ashutosh Sharma, with whom Tiwari is already familiar with during the Madhya Pradesh tour. “We know exactly what is needed,” Tiwari said. “The way the game is going, we both need to bat. We are comfortable with that. We have played together and we know each other. We come from the same place. The atmosphere in the middle is very calm. We are also training together before the IPL.” The 22-year-old hails from Indore and his family roots can be traced back to Rewa. By Tiwari’s own admission, his father ran a transport company, ensuring that he never lacked support or facilities while growing up. However, it was the former Indian cricketer who made the biggest impact Amai Kulasya. While training at the Amai Kulasiya Cricket Academy, Tiwari was constantly pushed to become a true all-rounder even though he himself was very much inclined towards batting. “Amai sir made sure I understood both these things,” Tiwari said. “He has played a lot of cricket so he knows the benefits of being a true all-rounder – especially India’s pace bowling all-rounder. When I realized how important the combination of the two was, I started working equally hard on both. ” Years later, the youngster now proudly describes himself as “100 per cent bowler and 100 per cent batsman”. Interestingly, despite not having played senior domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh so far, Tiwari has attracted attention in the IPL with his stellar performance against Bhopal Leopards in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League. Delhi Capitals spotted his raw ingredients – nimble pace, natural seam movement and clean batting ability – and signed him for Rs 40 lakh ahead of IPL-2025. The game against Kings XI Punjab was a validation in many ways. “This is my second year in the IPL. I feel I have gotten used to the environment,” Tiwari said. “The management and all the seniors are very supportive. You can always ask them any questions. Now that I’m used to it, I just have to control my nerves. It’s a bat and ball game and I just focus on my fundamentals. ” Like every young Indian cricketer who is just starting to find his feet, their dream is to play for the country one day. “That’s the ambition,” Tiwari said of playing for India. “My goal is to be the best. I still have a lot of work to do. I have to become sharper in my game. I hope to learn more from here and achieve good results in the future.”

Pune: India’s highest-ranked female chess player Koneru Humpy has said that apart from China’s Zhu Jin’er, she does not think any female chess player has the potential to reach Elo level 2600 and break into the top 100 in the public world rankings.Hampi, who will compete in the Norwegian Chess Classic in Oslo on May 25, told The Times of India in Vijayawada, “I don’t think there will be a big breakthrough for women when we have separate tournaments for women and men. Playing in the same circle of players won’t help.”

“Unless women start playing consistently in open tournaments, there’s not going to be any good opportunity to improve. And you need to work your way up by playing in these open tournaments. I did this for a while before priorities changed. Judit Polgar and Hou Yifan are exceptions,” she added.Although defending women’s world champion Ju Wenjun reached her highest Elo rating of 2604 in March 2017, her current Elo rating is 2559. Her challenger R Vaishali has a rating of 2496.The 39-year-old Humpy, the first Indian woman to hold the GM title, was one of the favorites for the Candidates Championship to be held in Cyprus in March-April but withdrew due to security concerns due to the uncertainty posed by the war in West Asia. “More importantly, when I compete, I should love the sport. When I travel somewhere, I shouldn’t feel like I’m putting my family or my loved ones through stress,” Hampy said. “I don’t regret not competing in that competition because I exited in a completely different situation.Hampy said it took her some time to make the decision simply because it directly affected qualification for the world championships. But she felt it was wrong to withdraw quietly without explaining her feelings – an indirect indication that FIDE was insensitive to her withdrawal and that player safety should be the top priority.Hampi prefers to call the chess boom in the country the “Tamil Nadu boom” and believes more players should come from other states. She chose not to comment too much on World Champion D Gukesh or Vaishali’s loss in the women’s championship qualifiers.Humpy said: “I don’t want to comment on any other players or any other situation because I have been through a lot of things too. When I encountered difficulties, I saw the silence of the world. Maybe, sometimes, silence is better.”

Saudi Arabia launches covert retaliatory air strikes on Iran amid regional war: report
Representative image source: Associated Press

Saudi Arabia carried out a series of undisclosed air strikes on Iran in late March in retaliation for attacks on Saudi soil during the Middle East conflict, Reuters reported citing sources. The attack marked Saudi Arabia’s first direct military action on Iranian soil and highlighted a major shift in the country’s attitude towards its main regional rival. The conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched air strikes on Iran. In the following weeks, Iran struck all six Gulf Cooperation Council countries with missiles and drones, attacking U.S. military bases, civilian sites, airports and oil infrastructure, while also closing the Strait of Hormuz and disrupting global trade.Despite its close military ties with the United States, Saudi Arabia found itself vulnerable during the 10-week war as attacks pierced the U.S. security umbrella. One Western official said the Saudi air force attack was “a tit-for-tat strike in retaliation for attacks on Saudi Arabia.”The attacks reflect the widening scope of conflicts across the Middle East and shine a light on regional rivalries that remain largely invisible to the public. The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the United Arab Emirates also carried out military strikes against Iran. The Saudi and Emirati actions together signal the Gulf monarchy’s military response after being attacked by Iran. However, their methods differ. The UAE has taken a tougher stance, seeking to impose costs on Iran and engaging in little public diplomacy with Tehran. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, seeks to contain the conflict and is in regular contact with Iranian officials, including through Tehran’s ambassador to Riyadh, who did not respond to requests for comment.Saudi Arabia informed Iran of the attack, leading to intensive diplomatic contacts and warnings of further retaliation, according to Iranian and Western officials. These exchanges eventually led to an understanding between the two countries that eased tensions.Ali Vaez, director of the Iran program at the International Crisis Group, said Saudi Arabia’s retaliatory strikes after the situation de-escalated would “demonstrate a pragmatic understanding on both sides that uncontrolled escalation will bring unacceptable costs.”Such a sequence would reflect “not trust but a shared interest in limiting confrontation before it escalates into a broader regional conflict,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters. The informal de-escalation comes a week before Washington and Tehran agree on a ceasefire in the wider conflict on April 7. The White House did not respond to a request for comment. On March 19, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated at a press conference in Riyadh that Saudi Arabia “reserves the right to take military action when necessary.”Three days later, Saudi Arabia declared the Iranian military attaché and four embassy staff persona non grata.A senior Saudi Foreign Ministry official did not directly mention whether a de-escalation understanding had been reached with Iran, but said, “We reaffirm Saudi Arabia’s consistent position of advocating de-escalation, self-restraint and easing tensions in pursuit of stability, security and prosperity for the region and its people.”According to reports, there were more than 105 drone and missile attacks against Saudi Arabia during the week of March 25-31. Between April 1 and 6, that number dropped to just over 25.
