Mar-a-Lago shooting updates: An armed man was shot and killed after entering the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, the Secret Service and FBI announced Sunday. Assassinate Trump?

The president has been the subject of numerous assassination attempts before. In July 2024, the 79-year-old was shot and wounded by a man at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. In September of that year, Secret Service agents spotted a man armed with a rifle waiting near the Presidential Golf Course in West Palm Beach and subsequently arrested him. He was sentenced to life in prison.

In a statement about Sunday’s incident, officials said: “The individual has been pronounced dead and his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The individual was seen at the north gate of Mar-a-Lago armed with a shotgun and a fuel can.”

It was unclear whether the person was targeting Trump, who usually spends weekends at Mar-a-Lago. The president and his wife, first lady Melania Trump, were at the White House on Saturday night.

The official statement further added: “U.S. Secret Service agents and a PBSO deputy confronted the individual, and law enforcement officers fired shots during the confrontation. No U.S. Secret Service or PBSO personnel were injured. There were no Secret Service protective officers on scene at the time of the incident.”

First details of suspect

The suspect is in his early twenties and from North Carolina. He drove through the north gate of Mar-a-Lago when another car pulled out, according to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

The suspect was confronted by agents armed with a shotgun, and the box containing the shotgun was later found in his car.

Investigators believe the man left North Carolina days earlier and headed south, picking up shotguns along the way.

His family reported him missing shortly before the incident.

The motive remains under investigation and authorities are working to compile a suspect profile.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirms that former Assam Congress president Bhupan Bora will join the Bharatiya Janata Party

New Delhi: Yes congress Undecided even before the Assam assembly elections?Earlier on Sunday, the Congress party in Assam faced its biggest setback yet with former state president Bhupeng Bora formally joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (bjp) at their headquarters, Vajpayee Bhawan. While the defection of a state president is a seismic event in itself, the real significance of this moment for Congress lies in its similarities to the events of 2015.As the state gears up for the 2026 assembly elections, the ghosts of the past seem to be back to haunt the age-old party.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirms that former Assam Congress president Bhupan Bora will join the Bharatiya Janata Party

Himana left the Congress ahead of the 2016 assembly elections, despite Sarma playing a key role in managing the party’s 2011 election campaign and helping the party win an unprecedented 79 seats in the 126-member assembly.Recalling the incident recently, Sarma claimed that Sonia had actually been cleared of the chief minister’s post – just because of a phone call Rahul Gandhi Change everything.“Miss(Sonia Gandhi), as I still call her, asked me to decide the date and I told her that I would take oath the day after the Ambubachi Mera ceremony at Kamaga Temple in June (2014),” he said.

.

“Things changed after Rahul Gandhi called,” Sarma added.Already seen itHistory repeated itself in Borah’s case. After his resignation, Congress leaders reached out to the long-faced Bora but to no avail. All India Congress Committee (AICC) national chief Jitendra Singh said Bora had “withdrawn” his resignation after discussions with the party leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, but the resignation was yet to be accepted. However, Bora claimed that Rahul called him but did not say a word about his resignation letter.“He mentioned how we helped the party grow and he also helped me over the years, which is true, but he did not mention a word about my resignation letter,” Bora told news agency PTI.

.

“I told Rahul Gandhi that I felt humiliated in the party and then he said that he felt humiliated too. So what is the value of my humiliation? I cannot tolerate such humiliation as I do not have that much capability,” he added.During this time, the Assam chief minister announced that the doors of the BJP were open to Bora and promised to help him win “safe seats” in the assembly elections. Why Bora severed ties with CongressMany hot-button incidents fueled the animosity between Borah and the Congress. In his letter to Haq, Bora listed his grievances against Gaurav Gogoi and Rakipur Hussain. After quitting the party, Bora launched an attack on some Congress leaders but did not name them. He said he was ready to stay in the Assam Congress Committee (APCC) but not in the “APCC(R)”, an apparent reference to Hussain.“The prevailing perception in Assam is that the Congress party is coming under the influence of Rakipur Hussain, a leadership arrangement that has not resonated with a large section of the majority community in Upper Assam. His apparent connivance with Shri Jitendra Singh has further propelled the party towards disaster, pushing it to the brink of disaster and leading it to political doom. After all, politics is as much about ideas as it is about principles, and when the confidence of key constituencies is eroded, the consequences are neither trivial nor short-lived. ” the letter read.Bora also accused Gogoi of marginalizing him in the party’s decision-making process.“I can withstand personal reversals, but self-respect and dignity are not currencies I can trade for. I found myself neither consulted on the substantive issues of the party nor treated with the respect I deserved from senior colleagues. I do not express these thoughts out of resentment but out of genuine confusion as to why I seem to be marginalized at the hands of Gaurav Gogoi and Rakipur Hussain,” the letter read.He later claimed that Gogoi had undermined the opposition alliance he had formed years earlier, fearing that he might not become chief minister if the opposition came to power “by chance”.“What is the point of involving Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain in the negotiations when I was given the responsibility on February 9 to take the alliance forward again?” he asked.“Perhaps Gogoi feels that if the alliance is formed, Bhupembora will be friendly and throw everything before Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, threatening his existence,” he claimed.Bora, who is the chairman of the Assam Samilita Mancha, a front of 16 opposition parties, also claimed that ahead of the 2024 by-elections to five parliamentary constituencies, it was decided that the CPI(ML) candidate would contest the Behari seat as the organization had secured 40,000 votes in the last election.“I agreed, but my proposal was not considered by the AICC. Two or three leaders of the state unit also started discussing other names. Finally, one person was appointed as the Congress candidate, while before that, he was not even a party member,” he said.

Assam assembly elections 2021

“Leaders of other alliance parties then told me that if you can’t retain even one of the five seats, what is there to discuss about 126 seats in the next election? I then resigned as alliance leader on moral grounds and the Congress candidate lost miserably,” he added.Bora also said that Congress chief Jitendra Singh, who was tasked with taking forward alliance talks ahead of the assembly elections, chaired a meeting with the six leaders on February 9.“I accepted it as it was the party’s decision. I also felt there was a need to form an alliance as the Congress cannot deal with the BJP alone. I felt there was a need to unite the anti-BJP votes,” he said.He added that the next day, Gogoi told him that Rakibul Hussain would be actively involved in the negotiations.“I told him that this was not a decision taken in the meeting. Meanwhile, Nagaon Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi called me and said if Rakibul was there, he would not tolerate it,” Bora claimed.“During this period, Gaurav has publicly stated that I am spreading misinformation about leadership talks. I have spoken to other party leaders including Akhil Gogoi,” he said.“Congress party separated from Hindu society”Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Claiming that Bora’s resignation marked the Congress’s “separation” from the Hindu community, he was the last recognized Hindu leader of the state unit.“Bupembora was the last recognized Hindu leader of the Congress party,” Sarma said.Sarma claimed that more Congress leaders would switch to the BJP and claimed that disillusioned Muslim leaders might join Rajo Dal.“In the 2031 assembly elections, the BJP’s opposition will be the Raijor Dal and not the Congress,” he claimed.Sarma, who compared his own experience with his own, said Bora’s resignation reflected deeper issues within Congress.“His resignation sends a symbolic message that in the Congress, no one from an ordinary family can prosper. The Congress does not recognize people from an ordinary family. I come from an ordinary middle-class family and the BJP made me the chief minister,” he said.Congress marred by infighting?Assam is not the only state where the Congress is facing internal divisions. In Karnataka, chief minister Siddaramaiah and deputy minister DK Shivakumar have publicly displayed tension. In Odisha, Mohammad Mokwem resigned citing organizational issues.

.

During the Bihar assembly elections, rifts emerged again within the Congress party. Rebel leaders protested after being denied tickets. The party ended up being the weakest link in its coalition, with the lowest strike rate among its major partners.Bora now joins a growing list of leaders who have quit the Congress over clashes with the high command or state-level contests, including Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Jitin Prasada, who all quit the party and joined rivals. On the eve of the state’s assembly elections, the Congress party finds itself at a crossroads, grappling not only with the BJP but also with familiar internal frictions that have historically hampered its momentum.

Indian-born Deepa Mathew slams Australian Prime Minister's immigration remarks:

An Indian-origin political candidate has criticized the South Australian premier, saying his comments about immigrants were insulting.Families First’s South Australian upper house candidate Deepa Mathew says she was hurt by comments made by Premier Peter Malinauskas during a question and answer session in Adelaide this week.According to Australia Today, Malinaskas spoke at an event organized by the Australian Council for Economic Development and asked One Nation voters to think about “who will feed you, bathe you and wipe your ass when you are 90” if immigration is cut.The Prime Minister spoke of plans to increase skilled migration to help fill jobs in defence, mining and house-building. He said South Australia needed thousands of additional skilled workers each year, including for submarine projects. He warned that without steady immigration, the state could lose economic growth and good-paying jobs.Matthew moved to Adelaide from India with her husband and baby twenty years ago. She said the prime minister’s language used stereotyped immigrants.“Like thousands of other immigrants, we come here seeking opportunity, freedom and a better future,” she said. She added: “Reducing immigrants to people who exist solely to ‘wipe the bum’ is offensive and goes against the mandate of the Prime Minister’s Office.”Matthew worked as a banker before starting his own small business. She said her family has worked hard, paid taxes and taken an active role in the community since moving to the state. And said discussions about immigration should be handled with more caution and respect.“South Australia needs a fair, orderly and sustainable immigration policy,” she said.“We must align the immigration environment with housing supply, infrastructure and cost of living pressures rather than using immigration as a political prop,” she added. The comments were also criticized by One Nation’s leading upper house candidate for South Australia Cory Bernardi. He said the wording was inappropriate and unfair to nursing staff, adding aged care was an important and respected profession.A government spokesman said it was “extremely disappointing” that the Prime Minister’s comments had been distorted for political reasons.Malinauskas acknowledged that calling for more immigration may not be popular with everyone, but said it was necessary to fill job shortages and support the state’s long-term growth.

One day after the Supreme Court ruling, Trump increased global tariffs from 10% to 15%

Katir earlier criticized Trump’s move, saying the president cannot bypass Congress and impose broad tariffs. He noted that the U.S. Department of Justice had previously argued to the U.S. Supreme Court that Section 122 did not clearly apply to situations driven by trade deficits.“It appears difficult for the President to rely on the 15 percent statute (Section 122) when his Justice Department told the court in our case the opposite,” Katyill wrote. He added that if Trump believed such tariffs were justified, “he should do what America does and go to Congress,” emphasizing that the Constitution gives lawmakers, not the president, primary power over taxes.

Katyill’s role in Trump’s Supreme Court setback

Katir recently played a central role in a major Supreme Court ruling that struck down most of the tariffs Trump had earlier imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). Representing a coalition of small businesses and trade groups, Katyal successfully argued that the government had exceeded its legal powers. The court ruled 6-3 that the emergency powers law did not give the president sweeping authority to impose broad tariffs, reaffirming that taxing authority rests primarily with Congress. The ruling marks a major constitutional setback for Trump’s trade measures and limits the use of emergency powers to justify tariffs.

‘Opening a massage parlor?’ 3 Northeast women ‘racially abused’ by neighbors in south Delhi; video goes viral

New Delhi: Three women from Arunachal Pradesh have alleged that they were racially profiled, humiliated and intimidated by their neighbors in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar over a dispute over maintenance work in a rented apartment.Video of the incident has now gone viral on social media. TOI cannot vouch for the authenticity of the video. In the video, the accused woman can be heard calling the women “momo” and asking: “Mei massage parlor for 500 rupees mei kaam karne waali dhandhewali (You work as a sex worker in a massage parlor and earn Rs 500 per annum). Are you sitting here doing business? Do you run a massage parlor at home?”At around 3:30 pm on February 20, the women called an electrician to install air conditioning in their fourth-floor apartment. Dust and debris from the drilling operations fell on the floor below, triggering objections from neighbours, Harsh Singh and his wife Ruby Jain, PTI reported. What started as a disagreement soon escalated into insults and racial slurs directed at the Northeastern community. The defendants also allegedly made offensive remarks, calling the women “rubbish”, telling them to “go sell their mothers” and saying “Northeasterners are full of shit”. The man, Harsh Singh, also used derogatory language. At one point, the accused woman, claiming social and economic advantages, said: “Teri aukaat nahi hai…customs officer ka beta hai woh…politician ka beta hai (You have no standards. He is the son of a customs officer…the son of a politician).”A police officer was present during the altercation and can be seen on video trying to calm the situation. In the video, the women confront the couple, with one saying: “Everyone heard what you said about my image. You falsely accused me of drinking. If you find a bottle, check my room.”The women lodged a complaint with the Malviya Nagar police station. The FIR has been registered under BNS sections 79 (words intended to insult the modesty of women), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (common intention) and 196 (incitement to enmity on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.). against the couple. Section 196 is non-bailable and cognizable. According to PTI, no arrests have been made so far. “No physical harm was reported. However, the complainant claimed to have been mentally harassed and humiliated,” a senior police officer said. The women demanded a formal apology, saying the comments undermined the dignity of the northeastern community. The situation reportedly worsened when a building agent informed the women that they would have to vacate the apartment within two months due to planned repairs. The complainant expressed concerns about his safety and future accommodation.Police said further investigation into the matter was ongoing.

'Greenland gets the health care it needs': Denmark delays Trump's hospital ship plan
Troels Lund Poulsen, Donald Trump

Denmark’s defense minister said on Sunday that Greenland does not need medical help from other countries, after US President Donald Trump claimed that a hospital ship would be sent to the autonomous Danish territory.Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told Danish broadcaster DR: “Greenland residents receive the health care they need. They either receive treatment in Greenland or, if they need special treatment, they receive it in Denmark. So there is no need for a special health care plan in Greenland.”Healthcare is free in both Greenland and Denmark. There are five regional hospitals on the Arctic island. According to AFP, hospitals in Nuuk treat patients from all over the country.Earlier this month, the local Greenlandic government signed an agreement with Copenhagen to improve the treatment of Greenlandic patients in Danish hospitals.“We will be sending a great hospital ship to Greenland to take care of the many sick people who are not being taken care of there,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday. He added: “On the way!!!”Trump had earlier said the United States must control Greenland for security reasons. However, after defeating his previous threat, he had given up the chance to capture it. The “framework” agreement with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte is intended to ensure greater U.S. influence.

TimesofIndia.com in Kandy: Sri Lanka fans packed the Palleke International Cricket Stadium as the England batsmen politely threw away wickets. The noise didn’t last long, though. What followed was an even more tragic scene for the home side, a defeat so disastrous that the game at one point felt like a contest to produce the ugliest penalty of the night. After electing to bat first, England were still hampered by the performance of Sri Lanka’s bowling, which, despite its discipline and variety, deserved far more than the later performance. Despite recent injury woes, it was close to a textbook T20 performance: Dilshan Madushanka’s left-arm speed, Dunith Wellalage’s left-arm spin, Maheesh Theekshana’s enigmatic spin, and the raw, hostile pace of Dushmantha Chameera who nailed his yorkers and exploited angles around the wicket. England eked out 146 for 9, and on a slow, two-paced pitch, the total felt like at least 20 runs short. Then came the implosion. Sri Lanka’s chase ended almost immediately, wickets tumbling with mind-numbing predictability. The shot selection was reckless and the execution even worse. After losing to Zimbabwe in their final group game, they suffered a 51-run defeat to England in their opening match that could not only damage their season but also their performance. This could well end their semi-final hopes.

Salt Master Class

England’s game was a stark contrast: Phil Salt’s composure and clarity contrasted with a wider batting effort that fell apart once Sri Lanka’s spinners tightened the screws. Although Salt battled cramps in the damp weather to score a fluid 62 off 40 balls, England never really got off the ropes as the outfield was slowed down by dampness on a surface that offered plenty of grip. For Sri Lanka, Madhushankar set the tone early, finding the cue to swing with the new ball. He kept Salter and Jos Buttler quiet, conceded just four runs in his opening over, and repeatedly probed the fourth stump line. Butler struggled to settle under constant scrutiny. When Sri Lanka introduced Veerarachi as early as the second over, the intention was clear: to attack England with spin from the start.

Salter briefly broke the leash, leaning back to the Willarage loft at extra cover for the first six overs, but the pressure rarely let up. Madhushankar continued to tease Buttler with full lengths and subtle changes of pace, conceding just three runs in a miserly over. The match ended abruptly when Veeraraji trapped Buttler in front and the England captain departed with a dismal figure of 7 for 14.Sri Lanka sensed their opportunity and stepped up their attack. Jacob Bethell suffered a leg slip and died shortly after, mistakenly punching Madushanka. At the end of the powerplay, England were 2 for 37.Spin dominated the middle stages. Wellalage and Theekshana played with control and imagination, forcing turnovers by changing pace and trajectory. The two conceded 47 runs and shared 5 wickets. Harry Brook drifted and dropped at Wellalage and Tom Banton unnecessarily rushed out. At half-time, England were down 68 for 4.Salter kept England alive, scoring 50 off 36 balls with accurate judgment. A couple of clean shots from Chameera upped the tempo to take England to 100, but support remained fleeting. Salter’s resistance came to an end when he failed to clear long off against Wellalage, who set off with a quality 62. Theekshana completed the lower order while Wellalage finished with a haul of three wickets.

Sri Lanka implodes

Sri Lanka’s chase unraveled in a blur as England broke up the batting with a ruthless burst of new ball and some sublime part-time spin from Will Jacks.Jofra Archer set the tone, testing Pathum Nissanka with a sharp short ball. Nissanka fought back briefly before Archer triggered an untimely pull and was caught safely by Jamie Overton. Then England exploded. Kusal Mendis fired one straight back to Will Jacks before Pathan Rathnayake charged and slid one past Tom Banton. Archer bowled Kamil Mishara with a thick edge and Overton made a quick catch at slip.Jax landed two more strikes, Veralachi picked out Brooke, and Kamindu Mendez knocked Dawson straight to the floor. Chaos ensued when Dushan Hemantha dragged a pull ball to his own stumps. Sri Lanka’s last hope, Dasan Shanaka, fell short after a catch from Jacks and Banton. Shanaka top-scored with 30 off 24 balls.Sri Lanka were bowled out for 95 in 16.4 overs. For England, Jacks (3/22), Liam Dawson (2/27), Archer (2/20) and Adil Rashid (2/13) were the standout bowlers.summary scoreEngland 146/9 in 20 overs (Phil Salt 62; Dunith Wellalage 3/26, Maheesh Theekshana 2/21)Sri Lanka were all out for 95 in 15.2 overs (Dasun Shanaka 30; Will Jacks 3/22, Jofra Archer 2/20)
