PwC U.S. Consumer Summer Spending Poll It was revealed that 34% of adults plan to travel during Memorial Day and expect to spend an average of $898 over the long weekend. Americans will spend nearly $1,000 over the holiday weekend, but not everyone is willing to open their wallets.

24% of respondents expect to spend less on travel this summer compared to last year. They point to the high cost of daily expenses and focus on saving money and paying off debt.

“This is part of a broader K-shaped economic trend shaping the outlook for summer spending. But cutting back does not mean opting out,” PricewaterhouseCoopers said. “The more common strategies are short trips (45%), spending less on dining out (44%) and traveling closer to home (42%). Only 18% plan to postpone or skip certain trips entirely.”
