Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, pushed back against criticism after a campaign image shared on X sparked debate about the omission of his Indian-American wife, Danielle D’Souza Gill, from a fundraising post about family values.
The controversy began after The Daily Beast reported that Gill had excluded his wife from a campaign ad in response to accusations of racism.
Gill denied that characterization, saying the publication ignored other campaign posts published that day that featured his family.
What did Brandon Gill post and how is his Indian-American wife relevant?
Gill, who represents Texas’ 26th Congressional District, shared a photo of himself with his children on X along with a message about upholding American values.
“You can call me whatever you want. I just want my children to grow up in a country they recognize,” Gill wrote. “Every parent and grandparent needs to read this.”
However, users were quick to point out that the image did not include Danielle D’Souza Gill, the daughter of Indian-born conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza. The omission is noteworthy because Gill is defending himself against accusations of racism while ignoring his Indian-American spouse, The Daily Beast reported.
Some users compared the family-focused message to the disappearance of Jill’s wife, who had frequently appeared in previous campaign materials, the outlet reported.
Gill, however, disputed the report. In a post on X, he shared screenshots of three campaign posts posted on the same day that included his wife and family members.
“All 3 posts were published on the same day. But the despicable liars at The Daily Beast wrote this disgusting headline anyway,” Gill wrote, accusing the publication of presenting a misleading narrative.

Brendan Gill Fights Racism
Last week, Gill defended himself against accusations of racism, writing that political opponents often label him a racist to silence him.
Gill wrote in an
Democratic House of Representatives Shri ThanidharAn Indian-American congressman from Michigan responded by citing Gill’s previous remarks about Indian-Americans and immigrants. “No one is calling you a racist to scare you into silence. We are calling you a racist for referring to Indian Americans as ‘7-Eleven’ workers,” he wrote.
He also accused Gill of pandering to a racist political base despite being married to an Indian-American woman. “The fact that you are married to an Indian-American shows you are nothing but a liar pandering to a racist base. How sad it is to be so cheap.”
Gill has also previously been criticized for comments about immigrants, Somali Americans, Rep. Ilhan Omar, journalist Mehdi Hassan and Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
