Erica Kirk shares honeymoon anecdote

During her speech, Erica reflected on celebrating her wedding anniversary for the first time without her husband, Charlie. She told a personal story from their honeymoon, saying the couple agreed to disconnect from technology and avoid work during the vacation. However, Charlie Kirk allegedly continued to use the emergency phone to keep up with online classes at Hillsdale College.

“He really understands that this institution is dysfunctional,” Erica said in her speech. She added that Hillsdale portrayed Charlie as a “no-nonsense man” who pursued “goodness, truth and beauty.”

“He was not just a political rhetorician, but a person who really looked for the good, the good, the real in life, and he really took that seriously because he loved learning. That’s what made him special,” she said.

She also encouraged graduates to embrace intentional living and meaningful choices rather than being overwhelmed by endless options.

Christian University President Dr. Larry Arn awarded Kirk two honorary degrees for public service after a 15-minute speech: one for her and the other as a memorial to her husband.

Arne promised to honor both men at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service in September.

Anniversary Recreation of Old Wedding Photos

Erika Kirk shared an exciting anniversary event online on May 8, ahead of her commencement address. Videos and reposts circulating on Facebook and conservative media pages show wedding footage and personal moments from the couple’s relationship.

The widow told graduates at Saturday’s ceremony that her husband’s short life provided them with a “fantastic blueprint” that cannot be copied.

She added that every young person in the audience is destined to live a life that elevates them. She further warned that if they instead look for “ugliness, conspiracy and pain,” they will find it. Erica advises graduates to “build carefully, choose wisely, and don’t go for something simple or straightforward, but for something beautiful and true.”

She also paid tribute to the United States and urged graduates to carry on her husband’s legacy of a strong nation.
