According to the US “Mirror” report, Trump said that his wife has become increasingly frustrated with media reports and theories about her alleged links to Epstein. In particular, suggestions that Epstein introduced the couple seemed to trigger a reaction from her.
“She found it very insulting,” Trump told The New York Times, explaining why Melania chose to address the issue publicly. He added that while he did not recommend the move, he supported her decision: “If you want to do it, you can do it.”
Trump also reiterated that Melania met with him independently. “She didn’t know me through Jeffrey Epstein,” he said, pushing back on circulating speculation.
Trump insisted that he knew Melania was planning to make the statement but had no prior knowledge of its content. “I didn’t know what the statement was, but I knew she was going to make a statement,” he told The New York Times.
“It doesn’t bother me,” he said, adding that Melania had “a right” to speak.

The speech reportedly surprised several officials. The New York Times quoted sources as saying that many people within the government did not know about the speech in advance.
The timing is notable as the administration has been trying to move away from the Epstein issue amid other major developments, including ongoing geopolitical tensions.
