New Delhi: India on Thursday responded to US President for the first time Donald TrumpThe controversial “Hell” statement said it had seen relevant reports, but did not issue a detailed response. Earlier, Trump shared an anti-immigration post on social media in which he used derogatory terms for both India and China.“We have seen some reports. That’s where I leave it,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told a media briefing.Earlier, Trump retweeted an anti-immigration social media post on his platform “Truth Social” that described the immigration situation in the United States and mentioned countries such as India and China in derogatory terms, triggering political backlash and criticism.“Babies here instantly become citizens, and then they bring whole families in from China or India or somewhere else on the planet. You don’t have to look far to see this. English is no longer spoken here. The class of immigrants coming in today have little loyalty to this country, and that wasn’t always the case,” it reads.ALSO READ | ‘China, India or some other hellhole…’: Trump returns to anti-immigration rhetoric as approval ratings dropIt further alleges systemic bias in the employment and immigration systems: “You have to be from India or China, because nearly all the internal machinery is run by Indians and Chinese.” The article also claims that the integration seen in earlier waves of European immigrants is “long over,” arguing that the United States has transformed from a “melting pot” to a “cash pot.”The Congress party reacted strongly, condemning the remarks and pointing the finger at the government, calling the remarks “extremely insulting and anti-India” and demanding a firm response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Congress, in its response, said US President Donald Trump called India “hell”, adding that the remark “hurts every Indian” and urged Prime Minister Modi to raise the issue with Washington.“However, given his record so far, he cannot be expected to say anything in front of Trump,” the party added, further claiming that despite repeated statements by the US President, Prime Minister Modi has remained silent.
