Police were called to a domestic incident at a home on Sterncourt Road in France early Sunday morning. A caller reported that a man known to them had forced his way into the house and warned minutes later that he was believed to be carrying an explosive device; an explosion ripped through the house at around 6:32 a.m., Sky News reported, citing police sources.
The victims were identified as Jo Shaw, 35, and her ex-partner Ryan Kelly, 41.
Although both men died of their injuries, police confirmed based on current investigation results that Xiao’s death was considered a homicide. Authorities also said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the case.
Three other people, including a child, suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Police revealed there had been previous contact with the victim regarding a domestic incident and she was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. Specially trained officers are providing support to the victim’s family.
Emergency services, including bomb disposal experts, carried out an extensive search to secure the area.
Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, but most residents were later allowed to return.
Officials stressed that the explosion was believed to be intentional but was not considered terrorism-related.
