The UAE Aviation Authority has announced a complete ban on the operation of drones and light sport aircraft across the country, warning that anyone violating the regulations may face legal action. The General Civil Aviation Administration (GCAA) said the decision was taken due to the “current exceptional circumstances”. The announcement was posted on the agency’s official social media accounts.
According to the GCAA, the ban applies to many types of flying activities. This includes unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), recreational and light sport aircraft, and gliders and paragliders. All licenses related to these activities are currently suspended.Officials stressed that the restriction applies to everyone without exception, including amateurs and operators who typically fly these aircraft for recreational activities.Authorities urge the public to strictly abide by regulations and avoid flying drones or other recreational aircraft during this period. The GCAA also warned that breaching the ban could result in legal action under UAE law.Authorities said the move was aimed at protecting public safety and maintaining the security of the country’s airspace amid the ongoing extraordinary circumstances.
