This represents 85.1% of the state’s 5.73 billion registered voters in the state’s 234 precincts, the highest turnout in the state’s election history. While this appears to be a significant rise from the 73.6% (4.63 billion votes) recorded in the 2021 polls, the increase is modest in absolute terms: only 2.442 million more voters, 4.3% more than the number of voters in the last parliamentary election.
The high turnout was mainly attributed to the SIR, which removed the names of 57 lakh people, reducing the electorate from Rs 629 crore to Rs 573 crore.
According to data released on Saturday, more than 2.52 billion women voted, while more than 2.35 billion men voted. The female voting rate was nearly 1.725 million higher than the male voting rate, which was 2.1% higher than the male voting rate. This trend has continued since the 2011 parliamentary elections. Of the 7,728 registered voters of the third gender, 4,517 voted. Surur constituency has the highest number of transgender voters at 77.
The EC was criticized by DMK and AIADMK for not sharing data earlier.
Archana Patnaik, an election official in Tennessee, said that the Election Commission has made careful arrangements at 62 counting centers, and the counting of votes from all 75,064 polling stations and mailed ballots received will be completed on May 4.
The authorities have arranged 234 counting halls at the same location, in addition to 240 counting halls for postal votes and electronic transmission of postal votes. A total of 10,545 vote counters will be involved, supported by 4,624 micro-observers to ensure transparency and integrity.
Patnaik said comprehensive three-tier security measures will be in place at all counting centres. A total of 65 CAPF companies will be deployed along with state and local police.
