Yet while Trump positions himself as a peacemaker, his approach to Iran has been more combative. He warned that Washington could escalate military action if a deal is not reached before the current ceasefire expires next week.“If we don’t make a deal, we’re going to make a deal in a different form – a much less friendly form,” Trump said, adding that the U.S. naval blockade of Iran would remain in place and military operations could resume if talks break down.He said talks with Tehran would continue over the weekend and reiterated that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon remains a top U.S. priority.Trump also pointed to developments in West Asia, including a reported ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon and claims surrounding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as signs of progress.However, Iran has refuted these claims.
