Traverse City: ‘Active shooter’ fears spread
One person claimed scanner reports showed “the shooter may be in the apartment behind Toms West Bay.” They added “active shooter,” and went on to say “according to the scanner, he is now turning himself in – has been taken into custody.”
However, there is no official confirmation of this yet.

Several others reacted to reports of the shooting in Traverse City. “TC wants to be a big city. Big city crime,” one person lamented. Another added: “I mean, nothing is like what we grew up in. Everything has changed. Morals, people, respect, etc.”
Another wrote: “With things like this continuing to be in the news, our standing as a holiday destination could be damaged. I bet our travel and tourism board has had a miserable two or three years.”

A source claimed to know what happened, saying “The 50-year-old was gone. Neighbors heard 15 gunshots and police on scene heard weapons being drawn.” Another netizen posted something similar, saying “Someone in Overheard who seems pretty credible said, ‘Tom’s West Bay gentleman has a brain injury and is shooting inside.'” However, this cannot be confirmed.
Some prayed for the safety of everyone involved, while others issued politically charged statements in the wake of the shooting. “‘New’ Traverse City, thank you for our useless governor. You get what you vote for,” one person wrote. Another added “”New” TC! Thanks. Not!!!”. Meanwhile, someone else said: “Again…this is not what we grew up in.”
