The assurance came despite strong protests by the DMK in Chennai, with demonstrators raising slogans and burning copies of the proposed bill.Speaking in the House of Representatives, Amit Shah dismissed concerns about the South losing representation as “completely false” and claimed the exercise would actually expand seats and influence. “The number of seats will increase and so will the powers,” he said.Shah outlined that the five southern states’ representation in the Lok Sabha will increase from the current 129 seats to 195, with the overall share rising slightly from 23.76 per cent to nearly 24 per cent.
