Ohio State University President Ted Carter suddenly resigned, citing an “inappropriate relationship.” The school’s board of trustees accepted the resignation at an emergency board meeting on March 7. Carter told trustees before that meeting that he had inappropriate relationships with “people who seek public resources to support their personal businesses.” The university has not yet clarified what he meant by an inappropriate relationship and whether there were other details.Carter, a former chancellor of the University of Nebraska System and a U.S. Navy vice admiral, will begin his tenure in 2024. Carter’s two-year tenure at Ohio’s largest university included a crackdown on university protests, discussions around artificial intelligence in education and government mandates to reshape college education, the Columbia Express reported.Walter “Ted” Carter Jr., 66, became the 17th president of Ohio State University on January 1, 2024, following a decades-long career in leadership in the U.S. Navy and higher education. Before arriving at Ohio State, Carter led the University of Nebraska system and served as president of the U.S. Naval Academy. His tenure at OSU was scheduled to end in 2028.

In 2019, Linda received the Secretary of the Navy’s Distinguished Public Service Award for her contributions to the Naval Academy and her dedication to numerous military organizations, activities and functions during her time as a military spouse.They have been married for 40 years and have two children: Brittany and Christopher.
