Tornadoes near Paris and Pattonville: Tornadoes on the ground in Lamar County, Texas; ‘Shelter immediately’

The National Weather Service confirmed the confirmed tornado was located near Pattonville in Lamar County, about 7 miles southeast of Paris. It was confirmed Friday evening that a tornado warning remained in effect for east-central Lamar County.

A tornado warning is in effect for central and eastern Lamar County until 8:45 p.m. CDT, according to the National Weather Service.

At 8:23 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado occurred near Bartonville, about 9 miles southeast of Paris, and was moving southeast at 50 mph.

Forecasters warned of multiple dangers, including the possibility of tornadoes and hail the size of tennis balls. Radar showed signs of rotation from the storm.

Officials said flying debris would pose a serious danger to anyone without shelter. Mobile homes may be severely damaged or destroyed, as may roofs, windows, and vehicles. Trees may be damaged.

The storm is expected to sweep through mostly rural areas in east-central Lamar County, including areas near Milton, DePort and Clardy.

Residents in warning areas are urged to immediately take shelter inside sturdy buildings, stay away from windows, and remain vigilant for further updates from the National Weather Service.

A tornado hit the city Enid Several homes were damaged Thursday and several people were injured, officials said.

In an update Friday, base officials said all personnel were accounted for. Fitness centers will be open to provide support to those in need.

“Only mission-critical personnel required to support critical operations and restore base utilities should report for duty,” the base said in a statement. “All other personnel should remain home and monitor official base communications channels for the latest news and reporting instructions.”

Officials are continuing to assess the extent of the damage.
