SIT files charges against man accused of assassination of Farooq Abdullah

Jammu: The SIT on Friday filed charges against a man accused of trying to assassinate former J&K CM National Conference Chairman Dr Farooq Abdullah at a wedding in Jammu on March 11 this year.The accused Kamal Singh Jamwal, 63, is a resident of Jammu.The seven-member SIT was formed on March 14, days after the failed assassination attempt on Abdullah.According to the chargesheet, when Abdullah was leaving an event in the Greater Kailash region, Jamwal allegedly shot him with a revolver, which was confiscated soon after.The SIT investigation revealed that the accused allegedly developed a deep grudge against Abdullah and blamed him for causing problems related to Kashmiri immigrants and their properties.Citing the conduct of the accused and material seized and collected during investigation, the SIT claimed that the man came to the spot with a “premeditated idea and specific intention to target Abdullah”.Jamwal is currently lodged in the Jammu regional jail.
