New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s convoy was reportedly attacked in Wandol in Kerala on Friday. One of the five defendants has been arrested.Around 7.30 pm, five gang members attacked Tharoor’s gunman and driver at Chelisod near Tiruvalli, Wandore.The incident took place at a roadblock at Chelihod Bridge when two vehicles blocked Tharoor’s car. As the gunman tried to clear the obstruction, he and the driver were allegedly attacked.According to the police, the road was narrow and Tharoor’s gunmen simply asked the vehicle in front to drive faster to ensure smooth passage of the MP’s convoy.Police said that while one of the defendants has been detained, the remaining defendants have been identified and will be arrested soon.The Congress MP is on his way to attend Congress leader AP Anilkumar’s election campaign. Tharoor said on his social media on Saturday that he and his security guards were fine. The MP said: “My security was attacked last night and I have been deeply touched by all the messages and calls expressing concern about this unfortunate incident. He is fine and I have not been affected. Thank you to all our friends and well-wishers. We continued yesterday without fear and completed two further events as planned. Our ongoing plans have not been affected.”
