NBC affiliate reports on Barnes’ resignation King 5 and KIRO Newscast. The latter reported that Mayor Katie Wilson fired Barnes.

He was initially given the option to resign or be fired, but the police chief refused to step down, according to reports. The 51-year-old was reportedly attending a moment of silence for the victims of the mass shooting before abruptly leaving to meet with the mayor.

However, there has been no official confirmation of Barnes’ firing.

What’s the fuss surrounding Shon Barnes?

Barnes was out of town the day of the mass shooting. Ultimately, it took his police department five hours to hold a news conference to answer questions about the shooting. At this time, the public was informed that a suspect was in custody and two guns were recovered from the scene. Before this, people only learned about the shooting at Seattle Center through the Social Democratic Party’s X post.

Barnes also had a showdown with South Seattle Emerald reporter Connor Nash, who asked Barnes about reports that he wasn’t in town often.

“I don’t have to tell you where I’m going. I have to have a medical procedure on Friday,” Barnes said, according to KOMO News. video. Barnes further said, “No, you need to know this. From the day I got here, I’ve been working for this city to the best of my ability. Do you understand?”

When a reporter asked, “There are reports that you don’t come into town very often,” Barnes replied, “Their reports are wrong, do you understand?”. He had to be pulled away by an officer, who broke up the confrontation in his presence and told Barnes, “Let’s go.”

Who is Sean Barnes?

Barnes was named a National Institute of Justice LEADS (Leveraging Data and Science to Advance Law Enforcement Advances) scholar for his use of technology and science to fight crime. He served as police chief in Madison, Wisconsin, and as director of training and professional development for the Civilian Office of Police Accountability in Chicago, Illinois.

Barnes also served as the deputy police chief for the City of Salisbury, North Carolina (2017-2020) and served as a captain with the Greensboro Police Department, where his law enforcement career began in the fall of 2000 as a patrol officer. He also served as a council member of the National Police College’s Commission on Policing Reform and Race.

The former police chief holds a bachelor’s degree in history/pre-law from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina and a master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. He also holds a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Greensboro.

The Seattle Police Department said Barnes’ policing philosophy is that “community policing should be neighborhood-oriented, community-centered (including businesses and residences), problem-driven, and based on the latest empirical research to rapidly reduce crime and increase citizen satisfaction with police services.” Page.

Barnes reportedly earned $360,485 as chief of the Seattle Police Department, according to Public Coke. While this information cannot be independently verified, it would put Barnes’ net worth at approximately $1 to $3 million. It’s important to note that this is just an estimate and does not represent the law enforcement veteran’s true net worth.
