Savannah Guthrie on miscarriage and two rounds of IVF: ‘My mom got me through…’

The “Today” co-host grew up in Tucson; Arizonaby her parents, Charles and Nancy Guthrie. She grew up with her brother Camron and sister Annie.

As Savannah Guthrie’s family takes center stage in the search for her missing mother, the Today host opened up about her miscarriage and two rounds of IVF in an interview with Good Housekeeping that appeared alongside TODAY anchor Hoda Kotb in an April 2022 cover story on motherhood.

When Savannah Guthrie opens up about her miscarriage and IVF journey

After the birth of Savannah and her partner’s daughter Vale in 2014, Michael FeldmanShe suffered the heartbreak of a miscarriage at the age of 41, and subsequently underwent two cycles of in vitro fertilization (IVF).

At age 42, Savannah gave birth to valley and shared her concerns about the challenges of becoming a mother later in life.

“I didn’t even allow myself to hope or believe that I could[have a baby]anymore as the years went by. It’s not that I thought it was impossible; I just didn’t think it was possible,” Savannah said in the interview.

Savannah told the magazine that she credits her mother for her ability to cope with infertility.

“My mom was with me through the trials of my 30s,” she said. “It’s great to have her because she’s always so sure. She’ll be like, ‘Well, of course you’re going to have your family, Savannah!’ It feels good.”

Savannah Guthrie welcomed her second child in 2016

Savannah and her husband welcomed their second child, a boy named charles “Charlie” Max, 2016.

“I knew having one kid was like winning the lottery,” Guthrie told Health in 2019, according to People. “So I never dreamed that I would have two kids. But with Charlie, I did go through IVF. So I would say Vale is a miracle and Charlie is a medical miracle.”

At the time, Guthrie mentioned that she and Feldman Extensive discussions took place before the decision was made to proceed with IVF.

“I always say Charlie is like the last egg. He is,” Guthrie said. “We’re so lucky. Going through everything we’ve done, it makes you realize that everything has to go right to have a healthy baby. I really feel for so many women who are struggling and hoping and wondering, ‘When is it my turn?’ I know. I get it.”
