Saudi Arabia has announced temporary measures to address status issues for travelers with expired visas, providing flexibility to those unable to leave due to disruptions caused by the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war with Iran. The move comes as authorities grapple with conflict-related travel difficulties. The interior ministry said the decision applies to holders of visit visas, Umrah visas, transit visas and final exit permits that expire around late February 2026. The initiative is aimed at helping those who are unable to leave Saudi Arabia as planned.Under the new rules, affected individuals have two options. They can choose to extend their expired visa or simply leave the country without facing penalties. In the first option, the visa holder can apply for an extension through their host. The extension is valid until April 18, 2026, subject to payment of the required fees through the Absher platform. This allows tourists to regulate their stay and remain within the Kingdom for a limited period of time.Alternatively, individuals whose visas have expired will be allowed to leave Saudi Arabia directly through international departure points. In this case, no visa renewal is required and no fees or overstay penalties will be charged. This option is designed to simplify the departure process for those who wish to leave immediately. The ministry clarified that these measures apply to visas expiring between February 25 and 26, 2026, ensuring that all affected individuals during this period are included in the scope of the directive.

Officials said the decision also aims to maintain smooth travel operations at Saudi international entry and exit points while ensuring compliance with existing rules.
