New Delhi: Reiterating his remarks, former deputy chief minister Udayanidhi Stalin on Tuesday called for Sanatan Dharma to be “eradicated” from the Tamil Nadu Assembly.Udayanidhi, while addressing the Tamil Nadu Assembly as Leader of Opposition, said the opposition “will not allow” any attempt to exclude the Tamil prayer song “Tamil Thai Vazhthu”.“Sanatana Dharma, which divides people, must definitely be abolished,” he said.Udayanidhi highlighted specific dissatisfaction with the recent swearing-in ceremony of the new government, claiming that the national anthem was pushed to third place in the order of events rather than being given its traditional priority.“An incident like this at your government’s swearing-in ceremony was a mistake and you should not allow it to happen again in this Parliament. We will not allow this,” he added. He further said that not only in Parliament but also in any government function or program held in Tamil Nadu, “Tamil Tewaztu” must always be at the forefront.“I request this government to ensure that this is never compromised. We must be very vigilant in protecting our rights and traditions,” the LoP said.“The DMK is the most senior when it comes to governance and we are ready to teach you,” he said relaxedly, referring to Chief Minister Vijay and Speaker Prabhakar. Vijay also smiled during his speech.Udhayanidhi’s latest remarks on Sanatan Dharma come nearly three years after he triggered a major political storm across India by making similar statements. He then said that Sanatan Dharma was opposed to the idea of social justice and needed to be eradicated.Udhayanidhi’s Dravida Munnetra Kazagam suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazagam in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. TVK won 108 seats in the first election while DMK got only 59 seats.
