The suspect was found dead in a car on a street near the mosque with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, several law enforcement officials reported.
As part of the investigation, authorities are examining hate speech inscribed on a gun used in the attack, as well as a suicide note containing references to racial pride, officials said, CNN reported.
this FBI Mark Remily, the special agent in charge who oversees the FBI, said it is working closely with its law enforcement partners san diego Field offices. He added that investigators were interviewing the suspect’s family and friends and were “collecting all evidence at the scene for review.”

About two hours before the shooting, police received a call from Clark’s mother, who told them her son and his vehicle were missing, along with several of her guns, San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said.
The mother reported that her son was experiencing suicidal thoughts and was accompanied by another person, both wearing camouflage clothing, prompting a “wider threat assessment,” as Val said. The chief said investigators concluded the teen could be a danger to others based on the number of guns he retrieved from the residence, CNN reported.
When police arrived at the scene, they found three deceased persons, whose identities have not yet been revealed, outside the mosque. Among the victims was a security guard, whose actions were described by police as “heroic” and played an important role in “saving lives.”
Law enforcement initiated active shooter procedures and entered the mosque and a nearby school before locating a vehicle containing two male suspects, both deceased.
Racial pride was mentioned in a suicide note found at the home of one of the suspect’s parents, according to several law enforcement officials who spoke to CNN. Additionally, one of the guns used in the shooting had hate speech etched on it, officials said.
The specific wording of the hate speech has not been disclosed.
However, it is worth noting that, as Wahl said, the note did not contain any explicit, location-specific threats involving weapons involving one of the suspects involved in the attack on the Islamic Center in San Diego.
“There was no specific threat, and there was no specific threat to the Islamic Center in particular. It was just general hate speech and I think it covered a broad spectrum,” he said, according to CNN. “Again, we’re still actively investigating this, but it’s more general.”
