Russians urged to work from home during fuel crisis

Authorities in Russia’s Novosibirsk region urged residents to work remotely and limit car travel as attacks on oil refineries in Ukraine triggered a growing fuel crisis. With a population of nearly 3 million, the region is one of the most populous regions in Siberia and a major economic and manufacturing center. It comes after Ukraine attacked an oil refinery in a region near Omsk earlier this week, destroying one of Russia’s largest oil processing facilities.More than 90% of Russia’s regions have experienced fuel shortages since June, with some areas imposing gas station rationing and bans on refueling drums, according to local media reports and officials. In a decree dated Wednesday published by Russian media on Friday, the Novosibirsk government advised employers to “change employees to remote work and reduce fuel consumption.” Ukraine has targeted Russian oil infrastructure during its four-and-a-half-year war and said the attack was retaliation for attacks on its civilians.(AFP)
