Police said Van Rootselaar first shot her mother and 11-year-old stepbrother inside their home, then entered Tumbler Ridge Middle School and opened fire on students and staff.A Reddit user reported on the internet forum Kiwi Farms that a now-deleted Roblox account with the username jesseboy347 appeared to be linked to Van Rootselaar’s other online profiles. They said a game created under the account called “Remember” featured a mall massacre in which players could fire on a group of civilians using a variety of weapons including rifles, ARs, rocket launchers, submachine guns, machine guns and snipers.

What is Roblox?

Roblox is a user-generated content platform with millions of players around the world every day. It allows users to design and share their own interactive experiences, including games.Forum users said the mall shooter, which places weapons and characters in a shopping mall, looks like a basic attempt to mimic real-life violence and mass shootings. Canadian authorities or Roblox have not officially confirmed that the account belongs to Van Rootselaar, or that the game influenced her killing so many people.Police said Van Russelaar acted alone and his motive was unclear. After the attack, she was found dead of self-inflicted wounds at school. According to USA Today , the shooter was also born a male and transitioned into a female six years ago.Violent behavior in shooter video games is common, but in rare cases, such games can prompt teenagers to engage in real-life attacks.
