Ramadan begins at a familiar and important time. Qatari authorities are calling on the public to look to the sky on the evening of February 17 to help confirm the start of the holy month.The Crescent Observation Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) urges Muslims across Qatar to observe the new moon on the evening of Tuesday, 29th Sha’ban, 1447 AH (i.e. February 17).In a statement issued on Sunday, the committee asked anyone who saw the crescent to immediately report in person to the Ministry of Health headquarters in Dafna Tower to formally submit their testimony.The committee confirmed that it would meet immediately after the Maghreb prayers that evening to review the testimonies and determine the official start of Ramadan.
