New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8:30 pm on Saturday. It is unclear what speech the prime minister is expected to deliver. The speech came a day after the BJP-led government suffered a major setback in the Lok Sabha when a constitutional amendment related to the women’s reservation policy failed to pass. The proposed legislation, related to enforcing women’s reservation through delimitation, which required a two-thirds majority, failed to pass after a long and heated debate.
In the subsequent vote, 298 people supported the bill and 230 opposed it, causing the bill to fail. The outcome marks a rare legislative defeat for the government on a key reform measure it has been pushing.Prime Minister Modi last addressed the nation on September 21, when he talked about the GST reforms.
