Saudi Arabia has introduced a more flexible residence permit renewal system for domestic workers, allowing employers to issue or renew iqamas for a minimum period of three months through the Absher platform.The new service, launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs through the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) in partnership with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and the Musaned platform, replaces the previous system that limited renewal periods to one to two years.Employers can now choose license terms of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 or 24 months, giving them more flexibility to meet their employment needs.The ministry said the residency fee will now only be charged for the selected period of validity, allowing employers to pay every three months if they choose to issue or renew licenses on a quarterly basis.According to the ministry, the changes are intended to ease the financial commitment of employers while providing more flexible living options for domestic workers. The initiative is also part of Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to modernize government services, expand digital solutions and improve the efficiency of residency procedures.
