'Not like coronavirus': Indian-American scientist says US doesn't need to panic about hantavirus

Indian-born scientist Jay Bhattacharya has urged Americans not to panic over a hantavirus outbreak linked to a cruise ship off Spain’s Canary Islands, insisting the situation is “not COVID-19” and is unlikely to turn into a large-scale public health crisis. The acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday that the outbreak is being managed according to time-honored hantavirus containment protocols that have been successful in the past.“I don’t want to cause public panic,” Bhattacharya said.“We hope to treat it with our hantavirus protocols, which have successfully controlled outbreaks in the past,” he said.“The key message I want to convey to our viewers is that this is not COVID-19. This is not causing [same] He added, “We should not panic when the evidence is weak.”The outbreak occurred on the MV ‘Hondius’ expedition cruise ship, which was carrying about 150 passengers. According to World Health Organization (WHO) officials, at least three passengers have died since April 11 and five others have developed severe hantavirus symptoms.Hantaviruses are commonly associated with rodents and can cause severe respiratory illness, fever, vomiting and diarrhea. The CDC says about 38% of people who develop respiratory symptoms die from the disease. However, health experts stress that the virus spreads far less easily than Covid-19 and often requires close contact to spread from person to person. The ship has since anchored near the Canary Islands and passengers have begun to disembark. There are reportedly 17 Americans on board, some of whom are expected to be quarantined at a specialized facility in Nebraska upon their return to the United States.Bhattacharya defended the CDC’s response, saying health officials had contacted affected passengers and were closely monitoring the situation.“The CDC has contacted every passenger,” he explained.“We are interviewing them and preparing to evacuate them to the Nebraska facility at the University of Nebraska, which is a great facility,” he added. He said the agency was following the same strategy it used during the 2018 Andean hantavirus outbreak in Eppuyan, Argentina, which killed 11 people.“This will include advice to these…travelers on staying in Nebraska if they wish, or if they want to go home and their family situation allows it, and driving them home safely without exposing others on the road,” he said.Seven U.S. passengers had left the ship weeks before the first deaths were reported. They later traveled to states such as Arizona, California, Georgia, Texas and Virginia. Hantavirus symptoms can take up to six weeks to appear, so health authorities are still monitoring them.Bhattacharya also explained why the CDC is not tracking every passenger who may have traveled near these individuals.“Passengers on the ship who flew home were asymptomatic when they flew home,” he said. “Because the virus cannot spread unless someone has active symptoms, passengers on the plane are considered contacts.”“There is no reason to do this kind of recursive contact tracing,” he added.Bhattacharya also heads the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate last year. Born in Calcutta, he is a professor of health policy at Stanford University who became famous during the Covid-19 pandemic as a co-author of the Great Barrington Declaration, which criticized lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

Yogi Adityanath claims Bengal has ‘identity crisis’, targets TMC’s governance

Besides expanding his team, Chief Minister Yogi also appointed Ajit Singh Pal and Somendra Tomar as ministers of state with independent charge. They were sworn in by Governor Anandiben Patel.Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel at Lok Bhavan ahead of the cabinet expansion. The expansion comes as the state prepares for the 2027 Legislative Assembly elections, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) aiming to rule for a third consecutive term.Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had reacted to X’s developments earlier in the day, questioning the electoral process and criticizing the political implications of the cabinet expansion. He expressed concern over the limited number of vacancies and the incorporation of leaders who had recently changed parties, while also targeting the governance issues of the BJP.

News: Uttar Pradesh cabinet expanded. Public views and questions: – There are only 6 vacancies in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet, and most of them are people who defected to other parties. Will all of them take up ministerial positions? – Would the weakest among them be chosen so as to reduce his weaknesses… — Akhilesh Yadav (@yadavakhilesh) May 10, 2026

Responding to the BJP’s decision, he wrote: “There are only 6 vacancies in the UP cabinet, but more people have jumped ship from other parties – will they all get ministerial posts?”He further questioned the selection criteria within the ruling party, asking: “Will the weakest among them be selected, thereby mitigating their weaknesses?” He also raised concerns about representation, saying: “If one is elected from among multiple MLAs from a community, what is the basis for the selection?”Akhilesh Yadav further criticized the future of the leader who recently switched to the BJP but may not find a place in the cabinet. “What will happen to those who switched parties? Will their neglect and humiliation be assuaged by some concessions?” he asked, adding, “Won’t those who remain left out feel completely cheated?”He also took aim at intra-party dynamics, referring to the long-pending aspirations within the BJP, asking what will happen to those who “waited for years” to become ministers but may now be sidelined due to new entrants in office. This is the second cabinet expansion since the Yogi 2.0 government came to power. The latest reshuffle follows the first expansion in March 2024, nearly two years after the government was formed.

Trump and Musk, who have now parted ways, spread unsubstantiated speculation on social media: gold May have been “stolen” at Fort Knox. They said they planned to check on the condition of the reserve – a discussion that dominated headlines for days.

Nearly two years after Trump was elected president of the United States, the issue has taken a backseat to the 79-year-old president’s agenda. But on Sunday, Trump brought up the issue again during an interview with Sharyl Atkison on “Full Measures.”

Asked about the prospect of an audit of Fort Knox’s gold reserves, Trump said he and Elon Musk “played” with the issue.

“We wanted to knock on the door and see if there was gold in there,” Trump said. “That’s what we played with. I wonder if they left the gold at Fort Knox because they stole a lot of it. I do want to go to Fort Knox sometime.”

As reported when the issue first arose, the US president indirectly assured that gold was still around.

What Trump and Elon Musk say about Fort Knox gold

On February 17, 2025, Elon Musk posted on X speculating on the status of gold reserves at Goldman Army Airport in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Notably, the vaults beneath the Air Force base hold gold, accounting for more than half of all U.S. gold reserves. It can hold approximately 9.2 million pounds. As of May 2026, gold is worth $6.2 billion.

“Who can confirm that the gold from Fort Knox was not stolen?” Musk wrote. “Maybe it’s there, maybe it’s not there. That gold belongs to the American public! We want to know if it’s still there.”

Trump’s focus on the issue has fueled speculation surrounding the Biden administration. Speaking to Republican governors on February 21, 2025, he said he and Musk would visit Fort Knox to “make sure the gold is still there.”

“We’re going to open the door… I don’t want to open it and the cupboard is empty,” he said. “Did someone steal the gold from Fort Knox?”

It’s worth noting that it’s unclear when Fort Knox’s gold reserves were audited. Hoaxes and speculation about gold reserves often circulate. For example, in 1974, a group of reporters and a congressional delegation visited the facility and inspected it. In 2017, then-Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin visited the Fort Knox gold reserve to inspect its condition.

New Delhi: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday took a jibe at the Prime Minister Narendra Modiwho said he seemed to have “lost his memory” after the BJP leadership took nearly 50 days to announce the chief minister in Delhi, has now criticized the Congress party for delaying the selection of Kerala’s next prime minister. He reminded the prime minister that the BJP itself had delayed its decision in Delhi and said the Congress followed democratic procedures and not a “dictatorship” system.

Chennithala told reporters in Delhi, “Prime Minister Modi should remember that it took him 50 days to announce the appointment of Delhi’s chief minister. Only now I realize that the prime minister seems to have lost his memory. The prime minister who has created uncertainty in Delhi without announcing the chief minister’s appointment in 50 days is now criticizing the Congress party.” The Prime Minister should not forget the past. “He further defended the Congress party’s consultative process and said decisions within the party were taken democratically after discussions with leaders and MLAs.“The Indian National Congress is a democratic party, not an authoritarian party. That is why the high command has said it will discuss with all of us and take a democratic decision. In their party, the situation is such that if Prime Minister Modi and Amit Shah decide something, then it becomes everything. Our party is not like that,” he said.Giving an update on the status of the Kerala chief ministerial election, Chennithala said the Congress high command has held extensive consultations with party leaders and legislators and the final decision will be announced soon.“The observers came to Kerala and listened to all the MLAs. Discussions were held with Sunny Joseph, VD Satheesan, KC Venugopal, me and others. Now, we are waiting for the high command’s decision.” A decision will be taken soon,” he added.A few days ago, the Congress-led United Front scored a major victory in the Kerala assembly elections, ending the Left Democratic Front’s rule in the state. However, the party is yet to announce the chief minister’s name, with senior leaders VD Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala and KC Venugopal emerging as the main contenders.Congress president Mallikarjun Haq and senior leader Rahul Gandhi have been in Delhi for consultations with Kerala leaders, while the party high command is trying to forge consensus to avoid factional tensions within the state unit.

Israel conducts operations from Iraq's Najaf desert during war: report

Israeli forces used an old airport in the Iraqi desert to set up a makeshift base during the war with Iran, two security officials told AFP on Sunday, confirming a Wall Street Journal report. On February 28, the United States and Israel jointly attacked Iran. At the beginning of the war, the army was discovered in the Najaf Desert in the southwest of the country and clashed with the Iraqi army, resulting in the death of one soldier and the injury of two people. “Israeli forces have established a base at an abandoned airport built by Saddam Hussein in the Najaf desert,” security officials said.“There are no longer troops there, but they may have left equipment,” he said, adding that the Israeli action “was coordinated with the United States.” It was unclear how long the troops had been there or what their mission was.Iraq has been embroiled in the Middle East war from the start, with U.S. and Israeli attacks blamed on Iranian-backed armed groups, who in turn have launched hundreds of attacks against U.S. interests in Iraq and across the Gulf. Reports of foreign troops in the desert emerged early in the war after a shepherd reported military activity. “Israel has established a secret military outpost in the Iraqi desert to support its air strikes against Iran,” the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter, including U.S. officials. “Israel built the facility with the knowledge of the United States to house special forces and serve as a logistics center,” the report said. The Israeli military has not yet commented. After the Wall Street Journal report, an Iraqi spokesman referred to the statement issued on March 5. At the time, Iraq’s deputy commander for joint operations, Keith Mohammadavi, told state media that Iraq protested the air strikes on Najaf to the U.S.-led anti-jihadist coalition stationed in the country. He said the Iraqi military sent a unit to investigate after receiving reports of “persons or activity” in the Najaf desert. The troops came under heavy aerial fire, killing one soldier and wounding two others. Mohammadavi said reinforcements then searched the area but “nothing was found.” “No foreign troops were authorized to enter the site.” Another security official said, “There are indications that the operation involved an Israeli technical team.” mechanism

Israel continued its attacks on southern Lebanon on Sunday despite a ceasefire, with authorities saying two paramedics from the Hezbollah-affiliated Islamic Health Commission were killed, Lebanese state media reported.

The state-run National News Agency reported that Israel carried out air strikes on more than 20 locations, including two villages in southern Lebanon, where the Israeli army warned residents to evacuate and said it would take action against Iranian-backed groups there.

Israel has expanded its strikes on Lebanon in recent days, with the state news agency also reporting on Sunday that it had shelled several other locations in southern Lebanon.

The latest attack occurred despite a ceasefire in place since April 17 that was supposed to halt hostilities with Hezbollah. Hezbollah has been launching its own attacks, mostly targeting Israeli forces operating in southern Lebanon, but also across the border.

A statement from the Lebanese Ministry of Health said Israel “launched two attacks directly targeting the premises of two health committees,” killing a paramedic and wounding three others in Karaway and another paramedic and wounding two others in Tibnin.

The statement condemned Israel’s continued “violations of international law.”

The Israeli military said in a statement that its forces struck “more than 20 terror infrastructure” sites in southern Lebanon on Sunday, including Hezbollah weapons storage facilities and headquarters.

Hezbollah claims to have launched more than 20 attacks on Israeli military targets in southern Lebanon and along the border, often using drones.

– Death toll rises –

The Lebanese Health Ministry on Sunday raised the total death toll from Israeli airstrikes since the war began to 2,846, including 108 health and emergency workers.

Israeli attacks have killed dozens of people in Lebanon since the ceasefire.

Under the terms of the truce issued by Washington, Israel reserves the right to take action against “planned, imminent or ongoing attacks.”

Its forces operate behind the Israeli-declared “Yellow Line”, which is about 10 kilometers north of the Lebanese border.

Residents have been warned not to return to areas south of the line.

On Saturday, NNA reported that Israel launched violent attacks across Lebanon, including one that killed at least seven people, and carried out several attacks outside Hezbollah’s traditional stronghold, about 20 kilometers south of Beirut.

Lebanon and Israel are preparing to hold a third round of talks in Washington on Thursday and Friday, with veteran Lebanese diplomat Simon Karam recently appointed by President Joseph Aoun to head the Lebanese delegation.

The first landmark meeting between the two countries, which have no diplomatic relations, took place just days before US President Donald Trump announced a cease-fire, while the second round of meetings came as he announced a three-week extension of the cease-fire.

On March 2, Hezbollah fired rockets into Israel to avenge the killing of Iran’s supreme leader in a US-Israeli attack, dragging Lebanon into the Middle East conflict.

Highway PPP projects are open to PE, pension and venture funds

高速公路 PPP 项目向 PE、养老金和风险基金开放The Road Transport Ministry has revised the bidding conditions for build-operate-transfer (toll) projects as part of efforts to attract more private investment into the sector. Officials said the Alternative Investment Fund (AIF) and the Foreign Investment Fund (FIF), which have strong financial resources, are expected to bring in better construction companies to execute projects while ensuring better return on investment for highway projects.Typically, the financials of these entities include pension and infrastructure funds that provide long-term capital. It remains to be seen how much interest these funds have and how they structure the deal. The revised bidding document notified by the Ministry of Highways said, “Bidders may be natural persons, private entities, government entities, AIFs, FIFs or any combination thereof with a formal intention to enter into a joint bidding agreement to form a consortium.” Highway builders and construction companies will also continue to bid for such projects. The document also sets out separate criteria for evaluating bids from alternative funds and traditional highway developers. For road construction companies, qualifications will be assessed based on technical and financial capabilities. However, for alternative investment funds and foreign investment funds, only financial capabilities are considered. For these funds, the required financial capability threshold is set at twice the prescribed eligibility level.“The concept of a concessionaire in a BOT project is ideally an entity that can arrange the finances, appoint a construction company to execute and effectively manage the highway. It is similar to film production – a producer arranges funds and assembles the right directors and actors to make a successful film. This change in norms will bring about a significant shift and attract quality investment into the industry. ” said an official. To ensure that the replacement fund hires a capable construction company, they will be required to submit the qualifications of the proposed contractor for approval by the authority. Contractors must meet the qualification standards specified in the bidding documents.

'Stop this crazy Indian immigration': University of Pennsylvania sparks controversy by hiring H-1B workers at $79,584 annual salary

A new H-1B petition sparked controversy this week as details of a $79,584 data analyst position at the University of Pennsylvania circulated on social media.American commentator Chris Brunet mentioned the case in X and wrote that the agency hired a foreign worker for the position. “This morning, the University of Pennsylvania (@Penn) submitted a notice of intent to hire an H-1B data analyst. Salary: $79,584,” Brunette wrote. The position is in the Department of General Internal Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine, according to the document. With an annual salary of $79,584.75, this position will begin December 23, 2025 and continue through December 22, 2028.Work locations include multiple locations in Philadelphia, including 423 Guardian Drive and 3600 Civic Center Boulevard, as well as remote arrangements in Philadelphia and Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. The university’s notice states that the labor condition application was submitted in accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s requirements for H-1B recruitment. It also confirmed that a candidate has been selected, adding that the notification “is not an announcement for a vacancy”.It warns that “complaints regarding misrepresentations of material facts in a labor conditions application and/or failure to comply with the terms of a labor conditions application may be filed with any office of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.”Because Penn is a cap-exempt institution, it can hire H-1B workers without going through the annual visa lottery that most private companies must use. U.S. government records show that the university has submitted dozens of H-1B applications for fiscal year 2026. These applications are typically approved once officials confirm that the employer is complying with wage and labor rules designed to protect American workers. The document sparked controversy over the use of the H-1B program, particularly in higher education. Conservative TV host Laura Ingraham has previously criticized the system, calling it an “obscene” scam that she believes is bad for American workers. Many other MAGA loudmouths such as James Fishback, Nalin Haley, and Priya Patel have doubled down on their opposition to H-1B.“None of the state universities in our great nation that receive public funds should be allowed to hire, train, enroll or educate foreigners,” one social media user wrote.Another comment read: “Ridiculous. There are plenty of Americans who are capable of doing this job. We have to stop this crazy Indian immigration nonsense. Especially since we know some of them bought degrees and certificates but are not qualified for the positions. No!”

Stanley Baldwin (Image: Wikipedia)

Some quotes still resonate decades after they were uttered because they deal with ideas that transcend generations. One such statement was made by the former British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, who once said, “I would rather trust a woman’s instinct than a man’s reason”. Although the quote is short and simple, it has remained relevant because it spurs conversations about intuition, emotional intelligence, decision-making and the historical treatment of women’s views in society. The quote may surprise you at first glance, especially considering the era in which Baldwin lived and reigned. Politics in the early twentieth century was a male-dominated enterprise, and public leadership was associated with logic, authority and rational decision-making. Yet Baldwin’s statement seems to recognise something else, the value of instinct, perception and emotional understanding. The quote has been interpreted in various ways over the years. For some readers, it is a praise of women’s intuition and emotional insight. Others see it more as a general meditation on how instinct can sometimes prevail where cold reasoning cannot. But whether or not this is a correct interpretation, the statement is still true today, as current discussions on leadership, emotional intelligence, and decision-making are starting to consider the importance of empathy and intuition, in addition to logic.

Quote of the day by Stanley Baldwin

“I would rather trust a woman’s instinct than a man’s reason”

What is the meaning of the quote by Stanley Baldwin

The quote contrasts two concepts that are often considered to be opposed: instinct and reason. Reason is generally equated with logic, calculation, analysis and rational thought. Instinct, on the other hand, is intuition, emotional awareness, gut feeling and immediate understanding. When Stanley Baldwin said he would trust a woman’s instinct over a man’s reason, he might not have been entirely dismissing logic. Instead, the statement appears to suggest that sometimes pure reasoning can never give us the insight that instinct and emotional perception can.Human decisions are rarely just logical. In personal and professional situations, people often work on emotional judgment, life experience, observation and intuition. Today, many psychologists argue that intuition is not irrational at all. Instead, it can be said to reflect the brain’s capacity to rapidly process patterns and experiences without conscious analysis. That’s one reason the quote still resonates today. It challenges the idea that logical thinking is always the best way to be.

Who was Stanley Baldwin

Stanley Baldwin was one of Britain’s most important political figures during the early twentieth century. Born in 1867, he served as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom three times in the 1920s and 1930s.Baldwin’s time in office was one of political uncertainty, economic difficulties, labour unrest and increasing international tension before the Second World War. He was known for his quiet way of speaking, measured political method and his ability to reach ordinary people.Unlike many of his contemporaries in politics, Baldwin often pushed for moderation and public understanding rather than dramatic rhetoric. His speeches were often more about social concerns and human behaviour than mere political strategy. The quote about trusting a woman’s instinct reflects his broader interest in human judgment and character. Although society during his time remained deeply shaped by traditional gender roles, Baldwin’s statement appears to recognise qualities often overlooked in public leadership discussions of that era.

Why intuition has become an important topic in modern psychology

Modern psychology has greatly changed the way in which people understand intuition. “Previous generations often considered instinct to be emotional or unreliable. Today, many researchers believe that intuition plays an important part in human decision-making.Psychologists say that intuition is the result of a great many experiences and observations, and of subconscious pattern-recognition. So, a lot of times, people make quick decisions based on information that their brain has already processed without them even knowing it.This is especially common in fast-paced fields such as medicine, emergency response, sports, business and leadership. Experienced professionals often rely on “gut feelings” which are actually correct because their brains can identify patterns developed over the years.Stanley Baldwin’s quote is startling in its modernity in that it reflects an increasing awareness that emotional insight and intuition should not be automatically overlooked in preference to cold logic alone.

The historical view of women’s intuition

For centuries, in many societies, there has been the idea of “women’s intuition.” Women have traditionally been described as being more perceptive of emotions, more empathetic and socially aware than men. Some of these assumptions were based on stereotypes, but current research suggests that emotional intelligence and social sensitivity are indeed human strengths. Those who study emotional intelligence often find that empathy, active listening, and emotional awareness are major contributors to successful relationships and leadership. These qualities are now well respected in the workplace, education, healthcare and management.Baldwin’s quote seems to recognise these strengths. It emphasises the importance of intuition and emotional perception, as opposed to just analytical reasoning.Nevertheless, the quote is still being debated, as the attitude of gender roles among modern readers is different from that of previous generations. Some consider the statement a respectful appreciation of emotional intelligence. Others believe intuition and reason should not be divided by gender at all.

Why emotional intelligence matters in leadership today

There is no place where emotional intelligence is discussed more as a quality of leadership than in the modern workplace and in politics. People don’t just judge leaders on their technical skills or strategic thinking. Today, good leadership is largely a matter of communication, empathy, adaptability, and emotional awareness.Organisational psychology research has shown that emotionally intelligent leaders are more likely to develop better teams, to resolve conflict better, and to create healthier workplace cultures. This is the same balance suggested by the quote from Baldwin. Logic is important. But understanding people emotionally is just as important. Human emotions, social dynamics, trust and communication all influence decision-making, and instinct and empathy are useful.Today, many companies are actively training managers in emotional intelligence, as workplaces are increasingly recognising that technical ability alone isn’t enough for successful leadership.

Why people continue to share quotes about instinct and intuition

Intuition quotes are still in fashion, as there are times when human beings feel that instinct is very strong. Many people can remember situations where a feeling, an impression, or an emotional perception later proved to be true.Science continues to study intuition because it occupies a fascinating space between emotion and cognition. Pure logic is not always correct, nor is intuition. Both are usually involved in human decision-making.That’s one reason Baldwin’s quote is memorable. It resonates with a universal human experience: the tension between rational analysis and instinctive understanding. The quote also lives on because it is brief and emotionally charged. Assumptions in statements that challenge often go on for generations because they are subject to interpretation and debate.

How society’s view of intelligence has evolved

Traditionally, intelligence was measured by academic ability, logic and analytic reason. Emotional understanding was paid much less attention to.But in the last few decades, psychologists and educators have broadened the very definition of intelligence. Now, emotional intelligence, social intelligence, adaptability, empathy and communication are considered critical dimensions of human capability. This broader notion of intelligence offers some explanation as to why the quote by Baldwin remains so relevant today. It recognises that wisdom may not be logical, but emotional perception and instinctual understanding.Modern leadership gurus often say that the best decision makers are analytical thinkers, but also empathetic and intuitive. Pure reasoning without emotional awareness sometimes can miss important human realities.

Intuition in everyday life

In ordinary life, instinct plays a far greater part than many people realise. People often use intuition to judge trust, relationships, opportunities or risks. Often, parents, teachers, doctors, and leaders make decisions based on emotional understanding and their own judgment.Emotional perception is especially important in relationships. People are constantly reading tone, body language, expressions and social signals, often without consciously analysing them. This is a very handy skill to have in a complex social world.Baldwin’s quote expresses this truth we all know, and readers can relate to it. Many decisions are not purely calculative, but a mixture of experience, empathy and instinct.

The quote’s relevance in modern conversations about gender

Today’s conversations about gender are more complex and nuanced. Baldwin’s words can be interpreted in different ways depending on the cultural outlook and personal convictions of contemporary readers.Others see the quote as recognising women’s emotional intelligence at a time when women’s contribution to public life was often underestimated. Intuition and reason are human qualities, not gender specific, some people say.The quote continues to be controversial, no matter how you interpret it, because it touches on age-old questions about how people make decisions and how societies value different kinds of intelligence. It also shows how public conversations around gender have changed over time. Comments that once seemed out of place now spark wider conversations about equality, leadership styles and emotional intelligence.

Why the quote still resonates generations later

What gives Baldwin’s statement its timelessness is the emotional and philosophical profundity. It doesn’t just compare men and women. It is a reflection of a larger truth about human judgment itself.Throughout history, civilisations have tended to overvalue logic and undervalue emotional insight. However, people seldom work on reason alone. Emotional understanding is the basis for relationships, for leadership, for morality, for creativity, for communication. The quote is relevant to the present day because modern society is finding out that empathy and emotional intelligence are becoming important in personal and professional life.In a world of data, analytics, competition and technology, people are still searching for a balance of rational thought and human instinct. In a single, remarkably simple sentence, Baldwin captures that balance.

A reminder that wisdom is not built on logic alone

Finally, the quote of Stanley Baldwin encapsulates an essential idea: human understanding is more complex than pure reasoning. Logic may account for facts and systems but intuition often helps people understand emotions, relationships and human behaviour. The quote does not exclude reason. But it suggests that emotional awareness and instinct can sometimes sense truths that analysis cannot fully understand. That’s why, decades later, the statement still comes up in conversations about leadership, psychology, relationships and human behaviour. It reminds us that wisdom usually comes from a balance of head and heart. Finally, the quote of Stanley Baldwin captures an essential idea: human understanding is more complex than pure reasoning. Logic can explain facts and systems, but intuition often helps people to understand emotions, relationships and human behaviour. The quote doesn’t exclude reason. But it does suggest that instinct and emotional awareness can sometimes sense truths that analysis can’t quite grasp. That is why the statement still finds its way into conversations about leadership, psychology, relationships and human behaviour, decades later. It serves as a reminder that wisdom often comes from balancing intellect and emotional understanding. In a world where decisions impact systems and people, perhaps that balance is more important than ever today. In today’s world, where decisions increasingly affect both systems and people, that balance may matter more than ever.

Pima County Sheriff Under Attack

In the more than three months since Nancy Guthrie disappeared, the two investigative agencies, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, have been unable to make any significant progress. Meanwhile, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is facing harsh criticism from local authorities.

On Sunday, CBS News reported that two Pima County supervisors are planning to take action against the sheriff to force his resignation. However, the push to remove him has nothing to do with the Nancy Guthrie case.

That involves allegations that Sheriff Nanos committed perjury during a deposition in a separate lawsuit, CBS reported. They accuse Chris Nanos of lying about his suspension while he was a police officer in El Paso, Texas. Citing El Paso Police Department records, the report noted that Nanos had been suspended multiple times after being accused of using “unnecessary violence” on the job.

Dr. Matt Heinz of the Pima County Board of Supervisors claimed Nanos has “lost the trust of the community.” “He’s embarrassed himself. It’s time for him to go,” he said.

Nanos’ attorney, however, denied the accusations. “Chief Nanos did not understand the issues related to discipline from another agency that is not governed by the Arizona Peace Officers Bill of Rights. When reviewing the transcript shortly after his testimony, Chief Nanos discovered the misunderstanding and immediately notified his attorney,” they said in a statement.
