North Korean citizens, including schoolchildren, were executed for watching South Korean TV shows like “Squidward” and listening to K-pop music, according to new testimonies shared by Amnesty International. The testimony comes from in-depth interviews with 25 North Koreans, including 11 who fled the country between 2009 and 2020, The Independent reported. Most respondents were aged between 15 and 25 when they left. Fugitives described harsh and humiliating punishments for consuming foreign media, including death in the most extreme cases. One interviewee said they heard from a related fugitive that some people, including high school students, had been executed for watching a squid contest in Liangjiang province, near the Chinese border. The other previously recorded execution for spreading the show was in North Hamgyong Province in 2021. Amnesty International said the reports indicated multiple executions linked to the show. The fugitives also described the dangers of listening to foreign music, especially Korean pop, citing bands such as BTS in their testimonies. In 2021, a group of teenagers were reportedly investigated for listening to BTS in South Pyongyang Province, near the capital Pyongyang. In 2020, North Korea introduced the Anti-Reactionary Ideology and Culture Law, banning the consumption of South Korean content. The law stipulates that those who watch or possess South Korean TV dramas, music or movies will be punished with five to 15 years of forced labor, and those who disseminate large amounts of content or organize group viewings can be punished with the death penalty.Kim Eunju, 40, described witnessing executions as part of “ideological education.” “When we were 16, 17, in middle school, they took us to the execution and showed us everything,” she said. “People were executed for watching or spreading Korean media. This is ideological education: if you watch, it will happen to you too.”Choi So-moon, who fled North Korea in 2019, also recalled a public execution in Sinuiju in 2017 or 2018. “The authorities told everyone to leave, and tens of thousands of people in Sinuiju gathered to watch,” she said. “They execute people to brainwash and educate us,” she said, adding that people often sell their homes to avoid punishment. “People were caught for the same behavior, but the punishment was all about money. People who had no money sold their houses to raise $5,000 or $10,000 to pay for leaving the camps.“
Send a message to Pakistan? Amid trade deal, India map shared by US Trade Representative raises eyebrows | India News
NEW DELHI: As New Delhi and Washington on Saturday announced the framework for an interim trade agreement, the map of India released by the Office of the United States Trade Representative has raised eyebrows. The map, shared along with details of the trade deal framework, shows that the entire Jammu and Kashmir region – including Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) – is part of India. It also depicts Aksai Chin, an area within Indian territory claimed by China. The U.S. Trade Representative posted onWhile India has always maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country and does not require external verification of its sovereignty, the description marks a departure from earlier U.S. government maps, which typically showed other claims as part of the map.The timing of the map’s release is noteworthy as India and the United States are improving trade relations after months of speculation.Earlier this year, amid stalled trade talks, the Trump administration imposed 50% tariffs on Indian goods, including an additional 25% on Russian oil imports – the highest tariff ever imposed on a U.S. ally. Under the announced temporary framework, tariffs will be reduced to 18%, one of the lowest among Asian countries. The map also shows Aksai Chin, located in eastern Ladakh, which is part of India. China claims the area and objects to India’s stance, and the dispute remains a sensitive issue in bilateral relations between New Delhi and Beijing.
Signal to Islamabad
Although the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative did not comment on the map, it is an embarrassment for Pakistan, which claims sovereignty over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The release also comes amid Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement with Washington in recent months, including multiple visits by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir as well as meetings with President Trump. The interim trade agreement, expected to be signed in mid-March, is aimed at easing trade tensions and providing relief to Indian exporters after months of uncertainty.

IFS/IAS appointees cannot appear for Civil Services Examination 2026 again; IPS no longer available | IPS | India News
NEW DELHI: The move is aimed at regulating the conduct of repeated attempts by candidates selected for the Civil Service Examination (CSE) Industrial Automation AssociationIndian External Affairs Service (IFS) or IPS, the updated rules for the elite recruitment examination bar candidates who have been appointed as IAS or IFS from appearing in CSE 2026. As per the CSE 2026 rules announced on Wednesday, candidates will not be allowed to appear for the ‘main’ exam or be considered for the CSE-2026 exam even if such appointment takes place after the 2026 ‘preliminaries’.Candidates who have been appointed to IPS from earlier CSE can apply and appear in CSE-2026 but cannot relist IPS in their service preference. If the candidates were allotted IPS or any Group ‘A’ Central Service through CSE-2026, they will be able to give one improvement attempt in CSE-2027 by availing one-time training exemption. If a candidate selected through CSE-2026 neither attends training nor is exempted, his service allotment for 2026 will be cancelled. If a candidate who passed CSE-2026 screening appears again in CSE 2027 and gets better services, he will have to choose between 2026 and 2027 batch. If a candidate does not get any service in the 2027 examination, he will be allowed to return and appear for the service allotted under CSE 2026. If the candidate does not attend training for the final selected service (2026 or 2027), both allocations will be cancelled. After one improvement attempt (CSE-2027), the candidate cannot appear again in CSE-2028 unless he/she resigns. Candidates who have served from CSE-2025 or earlier will be given one opportunity to reappear in CSE-2026 or CSE-2027 without resigning. If they wish to sit for CSE in 2028 and beyond, they must first resign from the assigned service.UPSC In its CSE 2026 notification, it has also removed the capacity cap at examination centers for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates, allowing them to be accommodated on priority basis. Initially, existing capabilities at each center will be used by both disabled and non-disabled candidates. However, once a center reaches full capacity, it will no longer be available for non-PwBD candidates, while PwBD candidates will continue to have the option to choose the same centre. More exam centers will also be set up for CSE 2026 – Meerut to ease traffic congestion in the Delhi-National Capital Region, Kanpur to decongest around Lucknow and Bhubaneswar to supplement the one near Cuttack. Apart from the notified exam centres, it also allows candidates to indicate their preferred nearby cities from a drop-down menu. This data will serve as a survey of candidate preferences and can be used to determine where new exam centers will be created where feasible.
Are the Epstein Island and Nickelodeon logos the same shape? The truth behind new document going viral after release
conspiracy theory claims NickelodeonThe iconic orange sign resembles a bird’s eye view Jeffrey EpsteinEpstein’s private island has surfaced online following the release of new court documents related to him.

The claim was amplified on social media, which also included assertions like: spongebobThe fictitious home address matched Epstein’s Little St. James Island.
Claims
A shared
The post also comes with an overlay image comparing the orange “splat” sign to a satellite photo of Little St. James.
According to International Business Times, similar claims first gained traction following the release of “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Children’s Television” in 2024, a documentary that detailed allegations of abuse and misconduct involving former Nickelodeon productions.
However, X users pointed out a critical chronological flaw. Nickelodeon’s splat logo was designed by graphic designers Tom Corey and Scott Nash in 1984 to reflect slime, chaos and childlike fun, according to commentators. More than a decade later, Epstein purchased Little Saint James in 1998.
Nickelodeon briefly brought back a modernized logo in 2023 as part of a rebranding that executives described as a visual callback to the network’s earlier identity rather than a newly introduced symbol.
The accusations about SpongeBob centered on a fictitious driver’s license shown in one episode that listed his address as “124 Conch Street, Bikini Bottom.”
Online users claim the address numerically or symbolically matches Epstein’s island location.
However, neither the court records nor the newly released Epstein documents mention SpongeBob SquarePants, Nickelodeon or related addresses.
Fact-checkers reject theory
Reputable media outlets rejected this claim. Poynter concluded that there was “no evidence that the designer of the sign referenced Epstein’s Island,” while Snopes described the visual similarity as “coincidental and unsupported by evidence.”
PolitiFact added that many comparisons rely on processed images or selective scaling.
‘Dost dost na raha’: Congress takes scornful jibe at India-US trade deal; 5 questions to ask | India News
New Delhi: Congress MP Jairam Ramesh on Saturday mocked “Dost dost na raha”. Prime Minister ModiHe mentioned his friendship with US President Donald Trump following the recent announcement of the India-US trade framework. Ramesh criticized the deal, saying it benefits U.S. farmers at the expense of Indian farmers, and expressed concern over a White House-confirmed deal for India to stop oil imports from Russia.
Ramesh said in the In addition, the United States also announced that if India purchases oil directly or indirectly from Russia, it may re-impose a 25% fine. ““In an effort to help American farmers at the expense of Indian farmers, India will slash import tariffs. India’s annual imports from the United States will triple, eliminating our longstanding trade surplus in goods. Uncertainty will persist over India’s exports of information technology and other services to the United States. India’s exports of goods will face higher tariffs than before.”Ramesh added that “photography” does not do India much good.“All these hugs and photos have not produced anything special. Trump had a scathing comment on Modi, kudos, namaste. Dost dost na raha,” he added.this congress The leaders’ criticism came in response to the interim trade agreement framework announced by India and the United States. The framework reaffirms the two countries’ commitment to the broader Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) talks launched by Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13. These negotiations are expected to include additional market access commitments and support for more resilient supply chains.According to the joint statement, the United States will impose an 18% reciprocal tariff on goods originating in India, including textiles and clothing, leather and footwear, plastics and rubber, organic chemicals, home furnishings, handmade products and certain machinery. The United States will also lift tariffs on certain Indian aircraft and aircraft parts that were previously imposed to address national security concerns. In turn, India will eliminate or reduce tariffs on all U.S. industrial goods and a variety of food and agricultural products, including distillers dried grains (DDG), red sorghum for animal feed, tree nuts, fresh and processed fruits, soybean oil, wine and spirits. India also intends to purchase US$500 billion worth of US energy products, aircraft and aircraft parts, precious metals, technology products and coking coal over the next five years.
Ola, Uber and other app-based taxi drivers to go on full-day strike – everything you need to know | India News
NEW DELHI: An India-wide collapse was observed among app-based transport workers on February 7 after unions representing gig drivers and delivery workers called for a nationwide shutdown to protest falling revenue, rising costs and what they said was increasing exploitation by platform companies. The protest, initiated by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union and the Indian App-Based Transport Workers Federation, involves drivers and delivery workers associated with major platforms such as Ola, Uber, Rapido, Porter and other app-based transportation services. The union said the agitation was aimed at forcing the Center and state governments to implement minimum basic fares as per the Motor Vehicle Aggregation Guidelines 2025.The union said the failure to notify base fares allowed aggregation companies to continue to set prices unilaterally, forcing workers to work longer hours due to reduced incomes and taking on operational risks without protections.Shaik Salauddin, founder of TGPWU and co-founder and national secretary of IFAT, said the lack of action by the government has led to the worsening of working conditions for gig workers.“The Aggregation Guidelines 2025 clearly require consultation with recognized trade unions before setting prices. However, the government’s failure to act has allowed platforms to deepen exploitation,” Salauddin said. The shutdown coincides with the Maharashtra Kamgar Sabha calling for a one-day nationwide strike by app-based taxi and autorickshaw drivers to raise demands, including action against what they call illegal bike taxi services, and over grievances related to the mandatory installation of panic buttons. The union said in a statement that drivers face financial burdens due to repeated changes in emergency button approvals.“While there are 140 panic button equipment providers approved by the central government, the state government has declared nearly 70 per cent of them unauthorized. As a result, taxi drivers are forced to dismantle previously installed equipment and unnecessarily install new equipment at a cost of around Rs 12,000, causing severe financial hardship,” the statement said.Speaking to PTI, Maharashtra Kamgar Sabha chief Dr Keshav Kshirsagar said the strike started in Maharashtra and other parts of the country in the morning and was supported by a majority of autorickshaw and taxi drivers. However, despite calls to ban the vehicles from the roads, taxis and auto-rickshaws are still available in some areas on app-based platforms such as Uber, Ola and Rapido. The union also expressed concern over the loss of revenue due to the increase in the number of autorickshaws under the open license policy and claimed that victims of illegal bike taxi accidents were denied insurance benefits. The February 7 protests followed earlier nationwide gig worker strikes, including a shutdown by platform delivery workers on December 31, when unions warned of disruptions to peak-hour services due to low wages, long hours and a lack of social protection.“Today, Swiggy Zomato delivery boys, Blinkit Zepto riders, Ola Uber drivers are the workforce that make these big companies unicorns; they are valued in billions of dollars. In this entire ecosystem that has been created, if there is one group of people who are oppressed and under immense pressure, it is gig workers,” an AAP MP said while talking to ANI.Amid nationwide agitation, a delegation of transport and delivery workers met Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha in New Delhi on Friday to urge the Center to enact legislation and better implementation of regulations at the state level.Shakh Salauddin said the delegation raised long-standing concerns during the meeting. “This delegation includes drivers and delivery workers from the App-based Transport Workers Federation of India. In Congress-ruled states and even in places where we are the opposition party, the electoral promises made to these workers are being implemented. At the central level, the government is providing social security schemes but this is not a substitute for statutory law,” he said.Saladin also praised the Karnataka government for bringing in legislation for gig workers. “Detailed discussions took place. The delegation described their issues one by one for about half an hour. We appeal to the Congress governments in states where implementation has stalled to take swift action. We once again congratulate Karnataka for being the first state to introduce a comprehensive law,” he added.Union leaders say the protests will continue unless the government takes action to enforce fare regulations and provide statutory protections for gig workers in the app-based transport and delivery sectors.
‘Until he doesn’t play Tests, I won’t consider him a great cricketer’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s father | Cricket News
New Delhi: The “Bihar is not for beginners” meme remains a popular trend on social media. Be it stolen bridges, elections in Bihar, politicians in Bihar or even dialect. For example, after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi helped India win the U-19 World Cup, he called his father Sanjeev Sooryavanshi and started it with “Papa parnaam”.Not “pranam” but “parnaam”, which is Bihar’s way of saying it, with elongated vowels. The conversation between father and son did not last long. “When Vaibhav called, I couldn’t help but shed tears,” Sanjeev told TOI in Samastipur, a lump in his throat.
“He jumped with joy along with the other boys. I told him I would talk to him later because it was an unforgettable moment. After this, he will not be able to play in the under-19s. He should enjoy this moment,” he added.Push boundaries with our YouTube channel. Subscribe now!Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit 15 sixes and 15 fours at a strike rate of 218.75 against England in the U-19 World Cup final at Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe on Friday. He scored 24 off the first 24 balls, meaning he had just 56 deliveries in his final 151 runs. His knock proved to make a difference as India beat England by 100 runs to win the title for a record sixth time.

“This is just the beginning, there is still a long way to go (This is just the beginning, there is much more to achieve). Jab tak Test na khele, kya bada cricketer (I wouldn’t have considered him a great cricketer until he didn’t play Tests),” said Sanjeev, who has set lofty goals for his son.In Patna, Vaibhav’s coach Manish Ojha’s phone was buzzing with messages of congratulations and strange requests: “Sir my son is two years old please make him a cricketer Vaibhav. (My son is two years old, let him be like Vaibhav). ““Absolute madness, ho rakha hai. That’s what I got. Vaibhav brought a sports revolution in Bihar. Now people will let their children play sports,” Ojha said, quoting a local proverb that later became a song in the MS Dhoni biopic: “Pahog Lihog Banog Nawab, Kolog Kudog Banog Karab (If you study, you will be noble; if you only play, you will be ruined).
Trendsetter
Vaibhav’s rise is certainly what Bihar needs. In cricket, Vaibhav has become a trendsetter in cricket and as Ojha puts it, “He is not a player who believes in singles or doubles. His belief system, his instincts, tell him only one thing: give it your all. He believes in complete dominance.”Not to forget, Vaibhav comes from a country that has always set trends. British boys got a taste of what was happening in Harare on Friday when the foundations of the British Empire were shaken in 1917. mahatma gandhi Champaran Satyagraha was launched against the Tinkathia system. Fast forward to 1974, socialist Jayaprakash Narayan, popularly known as JP, issued a call for Sampoorna Kranti (total revolution) that changed the discourse in India.

slow start
Before the semi-finals and finals, Vaibhav’s scores were 72 (67), 40 (23), 52 (23), and 30 (22) respectively. He got the start but couldn’t convert it into a big score.

“Cricket is a great equalizer. Even the man in front of me came to bowl to the society. He also works hard like Vaibhav. (The opposition bowlers also had a plan. They too worked as hard and committed as Vaibhav did),” said Vaibhav’s father. In the semi-finals, his 68 off 33 balls helped India equal Afghanistan’s 311 in 41.1 overs. After the knock, the 14-year-old gained some confidence and called his dad for the first time during the game.“He wouldn’t talk to me until he scored a big score. He only spoke to me after a good performance in the semi-finals,” Sanjeev shared.
India’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting to play
“He said, ‘Dad, I’m starting, but I can’t change it. Fight against all the invincible opponents in the world, this game has not come yet (I have been fighting for centuries everywhere, but it has not come here yet),” Sanjeev recalled of the conversation.“I consoled him and although I was also a bit impatient, I told him that his early blitzes were helping the team win the game. Just play like this and leave the rest to God. He was happy and relaxed and dad was not angry. Half an hour later he called me again. He will not call me twice. I told him again to play according to his nature,” he added.Vaibhav does play according to his nature. Just ask Thomas Lu’s kids, they’re looking down on their luck on the ground.“Look, I can’t say the game didn’t go well. You can say there weren’t too many big scores,” Vaibhav’s coach said.

“Waibhav has set such a high benchmark for himself that even 50 or 60 doesn’t feel like it means anything anymore. If you look closely, he scored 72 against Bangladesh, which was a match-winning performance. Against Afghanistan in the semi-final, he scored 68 in the first 10 overs, setting the tone for India’s chase of 300-plus runs.“What is missing is a good performance. But that comes with a player like Vaibhav. The day he comes on, no one can stop him. Failures and unsuccessful starts are part of it. Because when he finds his rhythm and gives it his all, everything becomes easier for him and the team,” he added.
What’s next for Vaibhav?
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a splash when he hit his maiden six in the IPL in April last year. He soon became the youngest centurion in the men’s T20 sport, scoring a 35-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans, the second-fastest IPL century after Chris Gayle’s 30 in 2013.In July 2025, he set the record for the fastest youth ODI century at the time, hitting triple figures in 52 balls and 143 off 78 balls against England in Worcester. Four months later, he scored a 32-ball hundred for India A against the UAE in the Rising Stars T20 Asia Cup, finishing with 144 off 42 balls.Sanjeev has just one piece of advice for his son, who many predict could become India’s youngest international cricketer after the ongoing T20 World Cup.

“I kept telling him, The more you eat, the more you leave behind. (The better you play, the more humble you should be). Continue talking to your seniors and coaches and ask them where you can improve. Yes, you scored a great century in the U-19 World Cup final, but that is in the past. The aim is to play Test cricket for India.“I gave him Sachin Tendulkar’s recommendation. He scored so many runs and there was never any controversy around him. The cricketing world adored him,” Sanjeev said.
