All-rounder Shivam Dube is in no mood to wait to reunite with his family after India’s victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Mumbai-based cricketer revealed that he had a strong urge to meet his father and children, prompting him to skip a planned flight and instead take an early morning train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.“When I came home, I was very anxious to see my children and my father… That’s why I left early in the morning. I just couldn’t wait,” Dube, who was traveling in the third air-conditioned carriage with his wife and a friend, said at an event.

Mindful of his celebrity status, Dube took care to keep a low profile. To avoid the crowds, he boarded the 5:10 a.m. train and stayed in the car until the last moment. On the ship, he spent most of the time in the upper bunk, wearing a hat, mask and long-sleeved T-shirt, and rested quietly the entire time.Despite Dube’s precautions, he almost got recognized when the ticket inspector spotted his seat and asked, “Shivam Dube? Who is he, the cricketer?” His wife responded quickly, assuring the staff: “No, no, where did he come from?” and deflecting the attention.Dube’s popularity soared after India won the World Cup. In eight innings, he amassed 235 runs at a strike rate of 169.06 and continued to provide momentum to the team in crucial cameos. Dube is already a contributor to India’s 2024 campaign and has emerged as one of the underrated heroes of the 2026 title race, cementing his reputation as a reliable and impactful all-rounder.

This day is observed annually on March 31 to commemorate the birth of Chávez, and is celebrated traditionally in several U.S. states, including californiaArizona and parts of Texas. However, recent developments have cast doubt on the scale and nature of this year’s events.

Why was the event cancelled?

The United Farm Workers (UFW) union, which Chavez co-founded, has withdrawn from all scheduled celebrations after learning of the “deeply disturbing allegations,” CNN reported.

“We have not received any direct reports and do not have any first-hand knowledge of these allegations,” the union said, adding that some of the details were “not our story to tell and not our place to comment.”

CNN reported that it had not reviewed the allegations and had not spoken with any of the alleged victims, and the UFW did not provide further details.

The Cesar Chavez Foundation says it is “deeply shocked and saddened” and is working with leaders of the farmworker movement to respond and support those who may be affected.

Which states are affected?

While California continues to officially recognize the holiday, which was established in 1995, several states, including Texas and Arizona, have canceled some events related to the day.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs said the state will not recognize the holiday this year, a CNN affiliate reported. Several local events were also canceled in Texas cities including Houston, San Antonio and Corpus Christi.

There is no clear indication that all states that celebrate the day, including Utah, will uniformly derecognize it, but participation appears to be scattered.

Chavez’s legacy

Chavez, who was born in Arizona in 1927, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962 with leaders such as Dolores Huerta. The organization later became the United Farm Workers, advocating for better wages and working conditions through nonviolent protest.

After his death in 1993, his legacy was cemented through state and national recognition, including Barack Obama’s 2014 proclamation of March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day.

However, recent accusations have prompted calls for accountability. The UFW and Chavez Foundation said they are establishing confidential channels for individuals to report harmful experiences.

Longtime collaborator Juan Jose Gutierrez told CNN the news was “completely disappointing,” adding that if confirmed, the claims could be “a blow to his legacy.”
