Turkey is negotiating with South Korea, Canada, China, and Russia to consider multiple nuclear agreements

Turkey is in talks with South Korea, Canada, China and Russia to develop new nuclear power capacity as Ankara works to expand its energy mix, Energy Minister Alparslan Baraktar said on Wednesday.Bayraktar told NTV in an interview that Turkey plans to build four nuclear reactors in the northern province of Sinop and another four in the Thrace region, marking an important step in the country’s long-term energy strategy.Türkiye has not signed any agreement and the government will evaluate proposals from multiple countries before making a final decision.“We will select projects that offer the most competitive terms and contribute the most to localization,” Bayraktar said in an interview. The planned expansion comes as Türkiye seeks to reduce its reliance on energy imports and bolster domestic production capacity through localization requirements tied to major infrastructure projects.
