Application of ODU aluminum alloy in ICE shooting

Back in January, Renee Nicole Good, a 2020 Old Dominion University graduate and award-winning poet, was shot and killed by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis. The shooting sparked protests across the country. A 37-year-old ICE agent died after shooting into her vehicle.

Friends and family remember Renee Goode as a devoted mother of three. Originally from Colorado, she moved from Kansas City to Minneapolis last year in search of a fresh start. According to her ex-husband, Goode had just dropped off her 6-year-old son at school before the fatal encounter ultimately claimed her life.

She graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, with a degree in English. While there, she gained recognition for her writing and in 2020 she received the Academy of American Poets’ Undergraduate Award for her work.

The university also expressed its condolences after news of her death broke.

ODU President Brian O Hemphill expressed condolences on her passing in a statement. “May Renee’s life remind us of what unites us: freedom, love and peace,” Hemphill said. “I hope for compassion, healing and reflection during one of the darkest and most uncertain times in our nation’s history.”
