NYC explosions: Video shows smoke outside 26 Federal Plaza; what we know about suspect in FBI custody
An explosive device detonated outside 26 Federation Square, new york city building that houses several government offices on Monday afternoon. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that a suspect was in custody.
Videos of fire and smoke explode as unconfirmed information about the suspect in custody began circulating on social media. As of now, police have not identified the suspect. Patel said the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating the possible terrorist attack.
“The individual has been taken into custody and there are reports of two minor injuries,” Patel said.
Explosion sparks charges against suspect
The arrest sparked reports that the suspect was an alleged “anti-ICE activist.” However, so far, the FBI has not officially released any information about the suspect’s motive. This statement appears to stem from the fact that 26 Federation Square, as well as many other government offices, also house immigration courts.
Additionally, FBI Assistant Director James Barnacle provided more information about the suspect, claiming he had an “ICE Off Our Streets” placard in his possession. Barnacle said the explosive devices involved were fireworks.
