Investigators explore possible cybercrime links

As the investigation progressed, a retired detective came up with an unusual explanation. Lisa J Miller, former director of law enforcement for the Colorado Attorney General’s Office fox news numbers Seasoned cybercriminals may be switching from keyboards to kidnapping, a tactic known as “wrench attacks.”

Miller said a “wrench attack” is when cybercriminals use violence or kidnapping rather than hacking to force victims to hand over passwords or money.

Miller believes Nancy Guthrie’s case has some of these characteristics but is different. “At the beginning of the Nancy Guthrie case, we were all looking at it and we saw some things that didn’t seem appropriate,” Miller told Fox News Digital. “What we saw with Nancy Guthrie was not a typical wrench attack.”

She pointed to the man captured by the Nest doorbell camera on Nancy’s front steps, both on the day of the kidnapping and three weeks earlier, as key evidence. “The street thug theory fits with what we saw in the Guthrie case because when the FBI released the photo of this porch guy, I called him the ‘porch monster’ from the beginning, I mean, this guy came across as kind of goofy,” Miller said. “Look at his attire, look at how he was carrying the gun…However, there are some very complex elements in this case that again fit what we see in traditional wrench attacks.”

According to Fox News, the typical plotters behind such attacks are young, tech-savvy and operate overseas, likely from countries with which the United States does not have extradition treaties. “They know where to go,” Miller told Fox News. “They know how to hide their digital tracks and where to operate from.”

Miller also said she believed at least some of the early ransom demands were genuine. “I have not thought for one minute, and I have said it before from the early stages, that the FBI would put Savannah Guthrie [and] Her family would have been traumatized by the recording of these videos if they did not believe there was something real behind them,” she said.

One man, Derrick Callella, 42 californiaAccording to Fox News, a was arrested for using the crime to send false ransom demands.

Old Tucson case casts shadow on ongoing investigation

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not confirmed the Wrench theory of the attack. In a statement cited by Fox News, a spokesperson for the department said: “The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not received any reports of a ‘wrench strike’ in our community. The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie remains active. We will share significant updates publicly as they become available.”

KVOA News 4 Tucson, meanwhile, compared it to a dark chapter in the community’s history. The Catalina Foothills area was once the hunting ground for a criminal known as the “Prime Time Rapist,” who committed more than 30 burglaries between 1983 and 1986, targeting more than 90 victims. Five months later, police identified a man named Brian Larriva, who committed suicide before being arrested.

Many residents of the area are in no rush to relive those memories. “Once again we’re getting attention for something bad,” one neighbor told reporters. Korean Audiovisual Association. Still, the community seems to be sticking together. “Every tragedy brings us closer. We are a close-knit community. Nothing or no case is going to change that,” the neighbor added.

As of now, the Guthrie family is still waiting for answers. The case remains under investigation.
