“My wife also has the right to parachute”: JD Vance talks about Iran’s claim for “uranium enrichment rights”

J.D. Vance made a bizarre analogy to his wife, Usha Vance, when commenting on Iran’s “right to enrich uranium.”

Vice President Vance used an analogy from his marriage to Usha Vance to explain the ceasefire in the Iran war. As Vance spoke on a tarmac in Budapest, Hungary, he was asked whether the United States would agree to allow Iran to continue enriching uranium for civilian nuclear purposes. Vance explained the difference between Iran’s “right” to enrich uranium and what it actually did, saying that Usha Vance had the “right to parachute” but would not have jumped if on a plane because the couple had an agreement.“Do you think the administration might be willing to agree to allow Iran to continue enriching uranium for civilian nuclear purposes?” Vance was asked. “What the president is saying is we don’t want Iran to have the capability to build a nuclear weapon. The president also said that we don’t want Iran to enrich nuclear weapons, we want Iran to give up nuclear fuel. Those will be our demands during negotiations,” Vance said.“I thought to myself, you know what? My wife has the right to parachute, but she’s not going to jump out of a plane because she made a deal with me that she’s not going to do that because I don’t want my wife to jump out of a plane,” Vance said, referring to comments by Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf that Iran’s ten-point proposal to end the war included “Iran’s right to enrichment.” What Vance wanted to explain was that he didn’t care about being “right” but more about seeing what they actually did. However, the analogy to second lady Usha Vance and their marriage has attracted strange attention as many social media users called it an insult to Usha Vance and Iran.
