New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah The BJP intensified its campaign in Tamil Nadu on Sunday with a high-profile roadshow in Modakurich Assembly constituency, launching a blistering attack on the ruling party. “Our government will end corruption in the DMK,” Shah told supporters during a roadshow. “I would like to appeal to ensure a landslide victory for the NDA’s BJP candidate Kirthika Shivkumar.”
Nepotism and corruption
A central theme of Shah’s speech was criticism of the DMK’s dynastic politics. He targeted Chief Minister Stalin, claiming that his primary goal was to secure power for the next generation of his family. “Stalin Shah claimed that he wanted to make his son (Udayanidhi Stalin) the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that from Mr. Karunanidhi to Stalin and now to Udayanidhi. “Such familial nepotism will never serve the good of the people of Tamil Nadu,” he added.
The battle for women’s reservations
Shah also used the platform to target the opposition on the issue of women’s legislative representation. He accused the Congress and DMK of actively hindering the growth of Tamil Nadu Assembly seats. “Congress and DMK are preventing women from entering Parliament and they are also refusing to increase the number of seats in Tamil Nadu,” he claimed.A day earlier, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi campaigned in the state, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah had “lied” to the nation on the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, claiming the “evil idea” behind it was to change the electoral map and weaken the southern states.
NDA’s show of solidarity
Shah reiterated the partnership between the NDA and AIADMK and predicted victory for the alliance under the leadership of Edappadi K. Palaniswami. “We are confident that together with the AIADMK we will form the NDA government under the leadership of Edappadi Palaniswami,” Shah said.Tamil Nadu will go to polls in phases on April 23 and counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. The main contest is expected to be between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance, which includes the Congress, DMDK and VCK, and the AIADMK-led NDA, which includes the BJP and PMK as allies.
